The Ideal Candidate

The Police Department is searching for an effective and self-motivated individual who has the ability to perform first line supervisory duties, as well as provide secretarial support to an executive. The Senior Executive Assistant will be well versed in writing, reporting, supply management, scheduling, organization, time management, equipment maintenance and travel logistics. The incumbent will have strong customer service skills to communicate in a professional and effective manner both verbally and in writing. In addition, the successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Building Inspector II to provide building construction inspections.  Our Building Safety team works as one solution-driven, cohesive team, and encourages leadership from the ground-up. Are you the next Building Inspector II to join our team?

The Building Inspector II is under the direction of the Senior Building Inspector. This position is part of a 12-person building inspection team working on a variety of projects from single-family, remodel, commercial tenant improvements in existing and new buildings, new construction of large development projects such as townhomes, apartments, hotels, and Class A office buildings.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of the building codes, is a good communicator to coworkers, contractors, and other members of the public, and will be able to prepare clear, concise and comprehensive reports, correspondence and other required documents; maintain forms, records and field reports relative to inspection activities and to document findings.

The Position

The Building Inspector Specialist (Plumbing) enforces the provisions of the Plumbing codes by inspecting both new projects and additions and alterations to existing residential, commercial and industrial buildings; provides technical expertise and training in an assigned functional area; may be assigned to assist at counter or in development activities; and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Job Duties

- Performs inspections, plan checks, and related duties in the specialized plumbing field of building inspection.
- Investigates unlisted equipment and suspect substandard installations to determine product equivalency.
- Resolves disputes over interpretation and application of building codes.
- Reviews building plans to determine compliance to specialized systems and methods and schedules of inspection.
- Meets with City officials, business representatives and the general public to discuss specialized facets of inspection, including procedures and problems.
- Represents the City at meetings and conferences in a positive, constructive, and complementary manner.
- Reviews and approves building permits.
- Trains staff in assigned building inspection specialty.
- Performs combination building inspection duties.
- Prepares correspondence and reports.
- Maintains building inspection records.
- Utilizes computer for tracking projects, writing and generating reports.
- Other duties as assigned.

MONTHLY SALARY:

Police Records Specialist I - $5,127.47 to $6,113.58

Police Records Specialist II - $5,636.44 to $6,716.00

What You’ll Do

• Receive on-the-job training, learn, and perform work in the following police records functions:
• Meet and assist the public at the Police Department reception counter and provide information according to City policy and Government Code requirements.
• Answer non-emergency heavy volume, incoming telephone calls.
• Operate machines and technology including but not limited to a computer, facsimile, copier/scanner/printer, calculator, desk-top computer, and a telecommunication terminal accessing County, State and National law enforcement automated information systems.
• Type, process, scan, and file a wide variety of police reports, warrants, subpoenas, citations, registrant files and court ordered record sealings utilizing various types of technology.
• Verify computer entries, process validations and assist with state and federal audits.
• Maintain logs for state and federal computer entries and updates.
• Retrieve and review daily crime reports for accuracy prior to submission to the District Attorney.
• Operate and organize a Department Records Management System to retrieve information such as searches for names, incidents, reports, and calls for service.
• Disseminate records information to department staff, outside law enforcement agencies, the public and other employees according to established laws and guidelines.
• Keep current on continuous changes and additions in report release requirements.
• Handle citizen complaints at the reception counter and on the telephone.
• Assist in training new and other assigned personnel.
• Perform record checks for authorized agencies in strict accordance with the law.
• Process vehicle release forms and collect fees.
• Process mail and order supplies.
• Purge department and citywide files as required.
• Assist in developing procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

If assigned to the Property Unit, duties may include but not limited to:

• Receive and maintain the chain of custody and integrity of, and safely store evidence, found property, and property held for safekeeping.
• Advise staff on proper packaging and submission procedures.
• Conduct inventories and audits of property and evidence.
• Release property to the public or the legally authorized persons in accordance with disposition forms, court orders, or stipulations.
• Check out items needed for court, investigations, and forensic testing; share evidence needed for investigation or review; transport items to and from laboratory and maintain strict records of chain of custody.
• Testify in court to verify chain of custody records of evidence.
• Make arrangements for auction of unclaimed property.
