City of American Canyon Parks and Recreation Department invite energetic and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Senior Recreation Leader. This position will be responsible for overseeing and leading the city programs and events. The position is also responsible for providing assistance to Program Coordinators.

This class reports to the Program Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor. The Senior Recreation Leader is the senior advanced level in the Recreation Leader series. It is distinguished from the Recreation Leader in that the Senior Recreation Leader provides lead direction to other Recreation Leaders for a program when the Program Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor are not available. 

This position is a full-time salaried position with an approximate starting annual salary of $65,297 and an excellent benefits program.  The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in this classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

This position performs professional level administrative work for the Office of Employee Relations.  Some of the duties of the position may include:

·     Researching, interpreting, and analyzing labor contract issues

·     Conducting surveys of other employers regarding pay and benefits

·     Consulting with and advising supervisors on employee performance and conduct issues

·     Participating in various aspects of labor negotiations, including attending labor negotiation sessions, drafting proposals/correspondence, and conducting cost analysis of proposals

·     Developing and interpreting employee-related policies

·     Conducting training for employees and supervisors on employee relations issues

·     Conducting investigations involving potential employee misconduct, including writing investigative reports, and assisting departments with the disciplinary process when needed

·     Carrying out other special projects as assigned

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is recruiting for one (1) part-time Recreation Specialist with the Cultural Arts program.  This position is responsible for helping to coordinate Arts related special events and Theater productions, provide assistance with projects for the Arts & Culture Commission and Public Art Committee, and assist with outreach and administration of new and current Arts contractors. This individual would also provide support with the Early Childhood Recreation program and its staffing, and would further support Volunteer events and recruitments.

The main goal of the Recreation Department is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide-range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision of a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Coordinator, plan, organize, and direct the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs.  Program areas include, but are not limited to:  Aquatics, Adaptive (special needs), Adult and/or Youth Sports such as organized leagues or classes, After School Program, Cultural Arts, Facility Attendant, Senior Center, Special Events, Summer Camps, Theater, and Youth Center/Youth Services.  This position may be a full-time position, year round part-time position, or a seasonal position. This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator classification based upon the required education and experience and range/scope of work assigned.  Further, this is an entry-level, paraprofessional position supporting the Recreation Department.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant or other supervisory/management staff, a Suisun City Police Officer performs a variety of duties related to the protection of public health, safety, and welfare and the enforcement of applicable federal, state, and local laws; provides traffic enforcement and control; and carries out special assignments in a particular phase of police work.

The Police Officer is an entry/journey level class responsible for performance of the full scope of assigned law enforcement duties and responsibilities. New incumbents may have limited related experience, but are expected to learn the full range of duties and responsibilities, perform duties with minimal direct supervision, and exercise sound judgment and discretion in making decisions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Patrols assigned areas of the City to preserve law and order, discover and prevent commission of crimes, and enforces traffic and other laws and ordinances; maintains awareness of and remains alert for wanted suspects, known criminals, stolen vehicles, missing persons, traffic violators, and crimes in progress; makes arrests; issues warnings and citations.
• Responds to calls for the protection of life and property, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, general public service calls, and complaints, including those involving automobile accidents, traffic hazards, misdemeanor and felony incidents, domestic disturbances, health code and local ordinance violations, property control, civil complaints, and related incidents; responds to and provides assistance at a variety of public service type calls that are non-criminal in nature.
• Conducts initial and follow-up investigations at scenes of incidents to which summoned or incidents observed; determines what, if any crime has been committed; collects, preserves, processes, photographs, and books evidence; locates and interviews victims and witnesses; identifies and interrogates suspects.
• Prepares and serves search and arrest warrants; apprehends and arrests offenders for crimes committed under federal, state, and local laws and codes; controls and mitigates people under the influence of drugs or alcohol or other potentially hostile situations.
• Directs traffic at special events or emergency situations; provides traffic and crowd control at community and emergency events.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Milpitas Police Department is a full service department, with 110 employees (86 sworn). The department provides public safety to 71,000 residents in a 14.5 square mile urban area. A wide variety of services include a SWAT Team, K-9 Unit, Crime Prevention Unit, Detective Bureau, and Traffic Safety Unit. Most officers work a 4-10 plan.

THE POSITION

Police Officers serve a diverse community by performing law enforcement and crime prevention duties, which include but are not limited to: controlling traffic flow, conducting investigative work, and performing a variety of technical law enforcement tasks. Police Officers also patrol the City in computer-equipped vehicles, make arrests as necessary, interview victims, complainants and witnesses, collect evidence, and prepare written reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Entry Level/Academy: Must be able to provide proof of completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university with major course work in police science, liberal arts, business, political science, psychology, or a related field. 

LICENSE

Must possess and maintain throughout employment a valid California Driver’s License.

EXAMINATION PROCESS 

Applicants whose qualifications best meet our current needs will be invited to participate in the oral board interview (weighted 100%). Candidates successfully passing the interview will be placed on an eligibility list that will remain valid for one year.

The Program Coordinator - Arts will coordinate the City’s Arts and Special Events programming; including the Recreation Department’s art activities, programs and events, and supporting the Arts Commission initiatives and programs, and performs related work as required. This is a unique position, affording the appointee the opportunity to develop a program from the ground up and leave a legacy. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, evaluation and oversight of programs, and the ability to build relationships throughout the community.

EXAMPLES ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Program Coordinator may have a specific focus in a program area or area(s), including, but not limited to the arts.
• Facilitates recreation activities, specifically enrichment, for specific youth age groups with part-time staff, independent contractors, and volunteers (groups and individuals).
• Organizes, implements, directs, supervises and/or promotes specific programs, activities and special events.
• Implements the Recreation Department’s programming at off and on-site locations and develops new programming and curriculum in partnership with the community. 
• Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget.
• Works with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents and community members in developing and providing programs and activities.
• Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Creates flyers, brochures, and other materials related to programs and events, as directed.
• Provides customer service to applicants, participants, and the general public.
• Monitors the day-to-day operations of the programs and special events, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required materials and supplies.
• Assists in the evaluation of programming including conducting customer satisfaction surveys and analyzing reports on program effectiveness.
• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes.
• Maybe one of the primary program liaison to the City's Art Commission. 
• Creation and development of new events, as needed.

*Please note that this is a part-time permanent position (25 hours a week or .625 FTE). The salary listed above is the .625 FTE equivalent salary. Benefits are prorated accordingly as well. Additional part-time hours may be agreed upon with the Director of Recreation filling an additional role/position but benefits will continue to be calculated at the .625 FTE proration.
