Livermore Area Recreation and Park District is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leader I/II. This position will be responsible leading youth programs/activities/special events.  Oversee gymnasium use for rentals/tournaments; keep facility clean and safe for use for all rental and programs.   Excellent customer service skills are required. Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff. Exercises direction over lower-level staff and volunteers.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the Recreation Leader series responsible for performing the full range of recreation program class and activities support. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator in that the latter is responsible for all operational activities within an assigned program area, including serving in an ongoing lead capacity over program staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conducts and monitors recreational program activities within one or more assigned program areas; performs tasks in accordance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

3. Monitors and enforces policies and procedures with respect to participant safety.

9. May direct the work of lower level staff assisting in a particular program area.

10. Performs routine administrative duties such as phone and counter reception and registration processing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED is desirable. 
• One year of relevant recreation program support experience.

Knowledge of:

•  Recreation program services, operations, and activities.
•  Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Proper care and use of recreation equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service.
•  Principles and practices of recordkeeping.
• Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
• Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.

Ability to:

The classification supports indoor and outdoor recreation programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or higher weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.

This is an unrepresented mid-management classification that oversees, directs, and participates in the day-to-day operations of an assigned Human Resources division, including planning, and budgeting, coordinating with other divisions and departments, and managing and accomplishing the complex and varied functions of the department. The position is distinguished from the Senior Human Resources Analyst, which is an advanced journey-level classification that performs a wide variety of professional level duties independently but does not have full division management responsibility.  The classification is distinguished from the Deputy Director of Human Resources, which is a single management-level classification that provides oversight of the entire Human Resources program and assists the Director of Human Resources in overall Human Resources management and policy development.

Essential Duties:

• Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Minimum Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible Human Resources management experience including assignments in the areas of recruitment, selection, classification, training, compensation, employee and labor relations, worker's compensation and safety administration, and employee benefits or other pertinent job-related areas, including two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience.

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in human resources, business, or public administration or closely related field.

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience capturing and creating content, assisting throughout the district.

• Draft Program Highlight and Promotional Social Posts 

• Edit Community Facing District-Wide Videos 

• Assist with District-Wide Communications including Email Newsletters, Website, and social media. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Create two to three 30 second videos highlighting LARPD’s impact on the community. 

• Update District Parks and Facilities Guide for Website  

• Capturing photo/video content from summer programs 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Learn to effectively communicate the LARPD brand identity across various channels, including social media, website, and content creation, by maintaining consistency in voice, tone, and messaging. 

• Gain hands-on experience in managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) by creating engaging content, scheduling posts, monitoring audience engagement, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize strategies. 

• Learn website management by assisting with content updates, uploading new information, ensuring website functionality, and implementing best practices to enhance online visibility and user experience. 

• Develop skills in content creation, including writing engaging copy, designing visuals, and creating multimedia content such as videos, graphics, and infographics to convey key messages and engage the target audience. 

• Gain proficiency in video editing software to assist in creating and editing promotional videos, event highlights, and educational content for various communication channels, while adhering to branding guidelines and storytelling principles. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

Work hours will be Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 40 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

Community Services Intern Project Plan

The Community Services team is seeking a summer intern for a 7-10-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to allow a student to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced youth development and recreation staff and assisting in promoting a safe, healthy environment within the camp setting by providing emotional support to the participants. 

Key duties

• Provides guidance, support, and assistance to staff throughout the week, which includes managing camper behavior issues, stress, and personal care needs
• Process critical incidents with supervisory staff.
• Participate in the intern group project.
• Provide support and be a role model to all participants.

Key deliverables will be:

• A training plan for camp staff to better understand best practices in working with children with special needs.
• Protocols to be followed when a situation arises with a child and what steps to take
• A template to be used for a behavior plan to include goals and actions.

• Being part of a strong staff team
• The creation of action plans to be used in a camp setting

BUILDING ATTENDANT

Salary:  $16.54 to $27.56/hour, non-benefitted position, DOE

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Facility duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Unlock and lock buildings for renters and programs.
• Be present and assist renters during events.
• Set up and breakdown tables and chairs for rentals and program classes.
• Maintain and keep facilities clean during and after events.
• Move furniture/equipment and return to appropriate storage areas after events.
• Assist renters with facility equipment usage.
• Clean sinks, counters, mirrors, stalls, floors, restrooms, and garbage disposal before and after rentals and program classes to ensure facilities are clean inside and outside.
• Performs duties within OSHA standards.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Position and Responsibilties

As a member of the Public Works, Engineering Division, in the Development Section, the Engineering Technician I/II will perform a wide variety of support functions to assist with customer service, development review and permitting.

Examples of Job Duties

General Duties for both the Technician I and II in all assignments:

• Operates a variety of office machines, calculators, personal computers and a variety of software applications.
• Makes initial review of project submittals and RFI's and routes correctly.
• Under the direction of a registered engineer, prepares manually or through CAD diagrams for field design changes.

Engineering Technician I (Development Section)

• Reviews and issues encroachment permits for work in the public right-of-way to residents, private utility companies including but not limited to PG&E, AT&T, Comcast, Alameda County Water District (ACWD) and Union Sanitary District (USD).
• Assists the Project Engineer in the review of private development applications from planning entitlement phase, to issuance of building permits, to approval of final/parcel maps and construction of any public improvements required to support the proposed development.
• Provides customer service at the Development Service Center related to private development applications and requirements for issuance of encroachment permits.

Engineering Technician II (Development Section)

In addition to the duties listed above for Engineering Technician I:

• Participates in the review and recommendation process for more complex encroachment and grading permits.
