ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Administration College Intern for the summer of 2024. This internship will provide a significant opportunity to gain experience and exposure and accumulate skills that are used daily in various city government programs that make substantial impacts to the community. These programs are in the areas of the City Clerks office, emergency management, economic development, public information and outreach, and other municipal administration programs and services.
 
The City Administration Intern will perform a variety of functions under the direction of the City Administrator and supervision of the Assistant to the City Administrator.

VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE 
Internships can start as early as May 31, 2024 and end as late as September 30, 2024. 
 
This paid internship is offered at 15 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The selected Intern may request a schedule of their choice during standard work hours as described below. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

The City of Belmont, in partnership with Carlmont High School, will be hosting summer high school internships for students that are interested in public government. This unique opportunity was created to expose the student community of Belmont to the many departments it takes to run a City.

This Department is seeking to fill one full-time Senior Power Resources Specialist position for the Regulatory Compliance and Policy Division. This position reports directly to the Deputy Director of Regulatory Compliance and Policy and will provide technical analysis, identify and evaluate the potential business impacts to SJCE from proposed regulatory and legislative changes and provide expert public representation of SJCE. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in working for, or on proceedings/initiatives from, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the California Energy Commission (CEC), and/or the California Independent System Operator (CAISO).

The Senior Power Resources Specialist will be responsible for overseeing a variety of regulatory compliance filings, engaging in complex electric regulatory proceedings, collaborating closely with external partners, and/or effectively advocating for SJCE's interests at the CPUC, the CEC, and/or the CAISO.

Typical duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:

• Develop and submit timely and accurate regulatory compliance filings with public agencies.
• Manage and prepare technical comments, data requests, written responses, and/or position papers, related to a variety of regulatory proceedings.
• Keep abreast of key California regulatory issues affecting SJCE by attending conferences, fostering internal and external relationships, and following industry developments.
• Monitor, review, analyze, and summarize regulatory filings, proposals, and proceedings that could impact SJCE and its customers. Communicate clearly the results of the analysis and possible impacts.
• Coordinate with technical experts and external regulatory counsel to develop effective and persuasive communications for submission to the CPUC, CEC, CAISO, California Legislature, and/or any other legal or regulatory body as required.
• Collaborate with and build contacts with other SJCE Divisions, City Departments, trade organizations, policy representatives, and regulatory agencies.
• Ensures compliance with policy directives, federal and state laws, rules and regulations, and local codes and standards; provides recommendations and assists in the coordination of organizational processes and policy revisions.
• Serves as a resource and may provide guidance to contractors and consultants.
• Other duties as assigned.

THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION, REQUIRING PART OF THE WORK WEEK TO BE ONSITE IN THE DOWNTOWN SAN JOSE OFFICE. The hybrid work schedule may change due to the department's business needs in the future.

Salary Information
Senior Power Sources Specialist: $135,211.44 - $165,634.56
This range includes an approximate five (%5) ongoing pensionable pay. Actual pay shall be determined by the candidate's qualifications and experience.

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The City of San José Housing Department is a leader in the development of affordable housing. Its mission is to strengthen and to revitalize our community through housing and neighborhood investment. The Housing Department provides loans for the development of affordable housing and manages a portfolio of over 17,000 housing units with a total value that exceeds $700 million. Over the next five years, the City Council has a goal of creating 25,000 housing units, 10,000 of which will be affordable. The Housing Department has an operating budget of approximately $19 million and 110 employees. The Housing Department is committed to creating and supporting a diverse work environment with a staff that values inclusion.

The Development Officer will be assigned to the Multifamily Project Development Program and will manage all phases of affordable housing lending. The position will oversee activities and programs within the Affordable Housing Production Division. The Development Officer reports to a Senior Development Officer. The Development Officer will be responsible for reviewing the structure of multi-family financing proposals for new construction and preservation of affordable housing. Tasks will include, but not be limited to: working with affordable housing developers and community groups to proactively manage affordable housing projects from the earliest stages through completion; underwriting loans for the production, rehabilitation and preservation of affordable rental housing with tax credit and/or tax-exempt bond financing, with a focus on determining feasibility and effect on the City's repayments, risks and policy objectives; reviewing financial statements and proformas for feasibility; managing support staff.

The City of Auburn is looking for a Transportation Supervisor to join our team!

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Transportation Supervisor is an important part of the City's transit team that provide services including the Auburn Loop fixed route and Auburn OnDemand ride share programs.

 THE POSITION  

The Community Development and Transportation Department (CDT) is seeking a value-driven team player to fill the position of Planning Intern. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic college level student seeking broad experience within a dynamic City Planning Division. The Planning Division of the Community Development and Transportation Department administers City Council policies contained in the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and other plans and ordinances. In addition, the Division establishes new and amended rules governing land use and urban design for adoption by City Council from the platform of the General Plan. The Division provides staff, professional service, and administrative support relating to the development, improvement, and preservation of affordable housing opportunities.

The Planning Intern will assist with a number of projects and efforts throughout the Division, which may include:

• Shadowing and assisting Planning staff during counter hours
• Maintaining a database of Planning permit records and files to serve an online permit viewing tool;
• Conducting research for various strategic planning studies that could include: Central Redwood City Master Plan, an Accessory Dwelling Unit Showcase, and Historic Preservation Ordinance;
• Investigating opportunities for increasing public involvement in Planning Division activities;
• Investigating opportunities for new methods of communicating with the public using social media, videos, and newsletters
• Preparing updates to documents, forms, handouts and other materials;

About the Position: The Planning Department is seeking two interns who are interested in learning about open space conservation and planning for ecologically sensitive recreation. Their responsibilities may include researching and compiling project information, supporting with community and stakeholder engagement, assisting with environmental review and documentation, researching new programs and initiatives, conducting field surveys and data collection, and using computer-based systems such as GIS, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator for analysis of data and preparation of documents regarding Midpen lands and facilities. The interns will work as a team and individually on assignments, including opportunities for field work to gain experience in data collection techniques and tools and on-the-job training in planning research, analysis, and written communication.  The expected start date for the interns is on or after July 8, 2024. We have limited flexibility to change the start date.

Basic Requirements: Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in the natural sciences, park/open space management, land use/environmental planning, GIS/geography, biology, ecology, or another related field; and experience with field data collection techniques. This internship requires strong organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and with a team. Experience with MS Outlook, MS Word and Excel, ArcGIS software, GPS equipment, Microsoft Excel, and Apple iPads is desired, and familiarity with Midpen preserves/trails as well as local flora, fauna, and natural history are a plus.   Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license is required. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions: This position will report to the Planning Department at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, which will be divided between onsite work, field visits, and limited home office work.  Fieldwork is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone or with another intern in wildland areas, traversing rough difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation, and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, which will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-9 month period. This is a non-benefited position.

This recruitment will be used to fill both full-time and part-time positions.

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles such as diesel and electric motor coaches, cable cars, streetcars and light rail vehicles; transports passengers along a specific route and makes designated stops as required; accepts fares, issues transfers, gives general directional information; and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

1. Conducts pre-operational inspection of the transit vehicle, in accordance with federal and state laws and departmental regulations, to ensure it is functioning properly.
2. Inspects the passenger compartment of the vehicle to ensure it is free from hazards (such as spills, loose handrails and stanchions, defective seats, etc.) and that the video camera lenses are not obscured.
3. Safely navigates the vehicle through traffic along assigned routes, under various environmental conditions, in accordance with traffic laws and departmental regulations.
4. Operates the disability access lifts to assist people in wheelchairs onto the vehicle and properly secures their wheelchairs when they are on the vehicle.
5. Collects fares from passengers and issues transfers; checks passenger transfers, fast passes, and electronic passes to ensure they are valid.
6. Uses vehicle's intercom system to communicate instructions to passengers and to call out vehicle stops and transfer points.
7. Responds to customers' questions regarding routes, directions, fares and transfers.
8. Conducts a post-operational inspection of the outside of the vehicle to detect defects and body damage, broken windows, and graffiti.
9. Contacts Central Control regarding various emergencies such as medical emergencies, vehicle malfunctions, vehicle evacuations etc. and/or circumstances that may affect service such as heavy traffic, road hazards, road obstructions etc.
10. Completes accident, incident and/or miscellaneous reports to document unusual occurrences.
11. May include additional duties as assigned.

Nature of Work: Incumbents in this class may be required to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends; to work outdoors in all weather conditions; and to use computers. In addition, may require standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time; performing different physical activities such as pulling poles, cranking switches in the subway, resetting retrievers to return disabled transit vehicles to service and assisting in the movement of disabled vehicles when possible. All employees, and prospective employees must comply with FTA and San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency mandates. All operators bid for assignments by seniority. Work hours and days off may change several times per year.

1.  Must be at least 21 years old by April 30, 2024 AND
2.  Possession of a valid High School Diploma, GED or California High School Proficiency Certificate AND
3.  One (1) year of verifiable satisfactory public contact or customer service experience AND
4.  Possession of a valid class C Driver License. Must have been a licensed driver for at least three (3) continuous years from April 30, 2021 through April 30, 2024 AND
5.  Possession of or the ability to obtain a Class B - Driver License with a Passenger (P) Endorsement and no restrictions that prohibit operation of a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency public transit vehicle AND
6.  A good driving record during the three (3) years between April 30, 2021 through April 30, 2024 and through the date of appointment, meeting the following requirements: 

• No more than 1 moving violations between April 30, 2023 and April 30, 2024;
• No more than 3 moving violations between April 30, 2021 through April 30, 2024;
• No accidents where applicant contributed to cause; 
• Has not had driving privilege suspended, revoked, or placed on probation more than once for a cause involving the unsafe operation of a motor vehicle; 
• No convictions of California State Vehicle Code Section 20001 (leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury or death); Sections 23103 through 23109 (reckless driving); or Sections 23152 - 23153 (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs), or equivalent convictions in another state;
• Other violations and/or accidents will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may be cause for non-selection AND

7.  No convictions within the past seven (7) years between April 30, 2017 through April 30, 2024 of any offense related to the use, sale, possession, or transportation of narcotics, habit forming drugs, or dangerous drugs AND
8.  No convictions of any sex offense as defined in Section 44010 of the Education Code AND
9.  Ability to obtain a School Pupil Activity Bus (SPAB) certificate issued by DMV.

Selection Process: (General Exam Process Information)

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ): Candidates will be required to complete a MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Training and Experience Evaluation (Weight-100%): Candidates will be sent a Supplemental Questionnaire via email after submitting their application. Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has determined that Class 9163 Transit Operator is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). Federal law requires that all transit employees who perform safety-sensitive functions be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. All applicants for Safety-Sensitive positions shall undergo urine drug testing prior to employment and within 90 days prior to performing Safety-Sensitive functions for the first time. Receipt by the SFMTA of a negative test result is required prior to the employee being placed on the payroll. A positive, adulterated, negative dilute or substituted test will result in a decision not to hire, and the applicant’s name will be removed from the list of eligibles for Safety-Sensitive positions. The SFMTA will not consider hiring any person who tested positive, adulterated, substituted or refused to submit to testing for a minimum of two years following the positive test.

In addition, each applicant who has worked for a Department of Transportation (DOT) – regulated employer(s) within the last two years will be required to sign a consent form, prior to appointment, authorizing SFMTA to obtain information from their prior employers concerning their drug and alcohol test history. Each applicant will also be required to provide SFMTA with information regarding whether, during the last two years, the applicant tested positive or refused to test on any pre-employment drug or alcohol test administered by an employer to which the applicant applied for, but did not obtain, safety-sensitive transportation work covered by DOT drug and alcohol testing rules. SFMTA will not hire any applicant for a safety-sensitive position who fails to provide this information or fails to provide written consent for the release of information from prior employers. 

Class B Permit with Passenger (P) endorsement and Airbrakes: 
Applicants who are successful in the examination process and who do not possess a Class B Driver License with Passenger (P) endorsement and airbrakes, will be required to obtain a Class B Driver Permit with Passenger (P) endorsement and airbrakes prior to starting the Transit Operator training.

Transit Operator Training:
All employees must successfully complete the SFMTA Operator Training Program consisting of both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. The rate of pay for a trainee is $31.0375 per hour.

Attendance to all training sessions is required. If a candidate misses any dates of training without providing proper notification, they will be released from their training class. If proper notification was provided, a candidate released during the training period due to attendance may request to be placed back on the eligible list to be considered for future classes, if the list from which they were hired is still active. Candidates may only request to be placed back on the eligible list one time.  Any candidate not approved to be placed back on the list or not able to be placed in another training class before the list expires will need to re-apply during the next filing period for applications.
