The Office of Racial Equity is hiring an Assistant to the City Manager position to serve as the Inclusion and Belonging Manager for the City of San José.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience and knowledge in:

• Being a bridge-builder with the San José community and trusted to be a local partner on immigrant and refugee issues;

•                

• Familiarity with legislative process, advocacy towards immigration policy and initiatives;

•                

• Understanding the local context regarding race, gender, and economic disparities and inequities;

•                

• Understanding of racial equity, welcoming and belonging principles;

•                

• Developing programs, policies, or practices that are equitable and are culturally and linguistically appropriate;

•                

• Meeting design, planning and facilitation;

•                

• Writing complex reports and effectively presenting findings;

•                

• Methods and techniques of research, data collection, critical and statistical analysis, report preparation, and presentation development; and

•                

• Supervision of staff and manage workload accordingly.

Central abilities key to this position include excellent communication, strategic planning, leadership and interpersonal skills, a commitment to excellent customer experience, and coalition building. The Inclusion & Belonging Manager responsibilities include the following:

• Implementation of a Welcoming framework, as well as monitoring, evaluation, and quarterly reporting;

•                

• Form and staff a Welcoming San Jose Advisory Group;

•                

• Prepare council memorandums and presentations;

•                

• Engage in Citywide efforts to advance racial equity;

•                

• Develop and facilitate ongoing partnerships with other agencies and organizations, including Santa Clara County, Rapid Response Network, Refugee and Immigrant Forum, Welcoming America, Cities for Citizenship, local funders, and other networks that prioritize immigrants;

•                

• Serve as a liaison between the City and the immigrant and refugee community;

•                

• Work with the City Manager’s intergovernmental relations team to track local, state, and federal immigration legislation and develop new City policies and programs accordingly;

•                

• Supervise City staff and college interns; and

•                

• Other duties as assigned.

This is a permanent at-will position with the City Manager’s Office reporting to the Director of the Office of Racial Equity. Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese is preferable but not required.

Police Officers play a dynamic role in law enforcement, combining crime prevention and public service. This position involves engaging in diverse assignments such as traffic enforcement, community-oriented policing, and specialized roles like Investigative Services, SWAT, and K-9 Officer positions. Entry-level applicants will undergo training at a POST-approved academy and transition into a field training program upon graduation, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful start to their law enforcement career.

 

The Police Officer position may be filled by a lateral transfer from a Police agency with patrol or investigative experience. Lateral applicants will enter into the field training program immediately upon appointment.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

EXPERIENCE:

• Patrol and/or investigative experience with a law enforcement agency is required 
  • Patrol and/or investigative experience with a California law enforcement agency is highly desirable
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship
• Must be able to successfully complete a 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes or fewer
• Knowledge of law enforcement terminology and Police Officer procedures is desirable

EDUCATION:

• Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required
• An Associate Degree or completion of sixty (60) semester units of college level courses is highly desirable 

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

• Must possess a valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
• Must possess a POST Basic Certificate
  • This certificate is awarded to currently full-time peace officers of a POST-participating agency who have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite Basic Course requirement and the employing agency’s probationary period

RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
The recruitment will remain open until the position is filled. Prior to hire, candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment process, including a Live Scan background investigation. A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment; however, failure to disclose a conviction will result in disqualification or termination.

The City of Redwood City is looking for individuals interested in working on an on-call basis providing transportation for seniors attending functions at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center plus working with staff on any programmatic needs assistance.  Hours will vary based on Center needs and will not exceed 10-20 hours per week.

Per the City’s COVID19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy, the City requires all employees starting on or after February 11, 2022, to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment absent a documented medical and/or religious exemption. Proof of vaccination means that employees are required to be “up-to-date” with regards to the COVID-19 vaccine. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Associate Engineer classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

The Department is currently recruiting to fill multiple Associate Engineer (Building) positions in the Plan Review Services Division with duties including, but not limited to:

- Advising professional engineers, architects and others concerning code requirements, engineering and planning problems arising in the preliminary design of buildings and structures.

- Examining plans, calculations and specifications for residential, multi-family, commercial and industrial buildings, including complex major structures for structural adequacy, zoning and general compliance with governing laws, codes, ordinances and regulations.

- Making independent engineering analyses on proposed buildings when required to justify the structural safety of design, and applicable electrical and mechanical systems.

- Working closely with and giving information to professional engineers, architects, contractors and the general public regarding building, zoning and general requirements concerning buildings and structures.

- Coordinating effectively with Development Service partners e.g. Planning, Fire Prevention, Public Works, Environmental Services for plan review consistency and streamlining permit process.

- Issuing permits after review of plans.

- Advising building inspectors on structural, fire and life-safety challenges arising in the field during the construction of a building project.

- Instructing inspectors and technicians in the review of simple building plans.

- Conducting safety assessments of older buildings and assisting in enforcing compliance with the City's Disaster Response Plan.

- Performing observational review of critical structural elements of the projects under construction.

Salary: $30.85 Hourly During academy attendance

$80,204 Annually Upon successful completion of the academy

Hiring Bonus $5,000 upon Academy Graduation, $5,000 after successful completion of Field Training and Probationary Period

Upon successful completion of POST Academy, the position becomes a full-time probationary Police Officer position

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Under direct supervision, the Police Academy Recruit attends a basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for performance of Police Officer duties.  This position requires a thorough background investigation, voice stress analysis examination, psychological assessment, and a medical exam prior to appointment. This is the non-sworn, entry-level classification in the Police Officer series. Incumbents in this classification receive training in a controlled classroom environment.  Advancement to the sworn Police Officer level is based on meeting minimum qualification standards, satisfactory performance in the academy and availability of police officer positions within the City.
