The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill two Associate Civil Engineer positions. One position will perform a variety of complex professional field and office engineering work related to water/wastewater engineering and the other in development engineering.
The City of Livermore is excited to announce the filling of two Associate Civil Engineer vacancies. Associate Civil Engineers make and/or review complex engineering calculations, develop projects including plans/specifications and estimate, conduct engineering studies, and review developments for compliance with Subdivision Map Act. Additional duties include monitoring and reviewing the work of consulting firms and administering consultant agreements; planning and performing engineering research; directing the collection of field data; and other duties as assigned. There are currently two vacancies and their assignments are listed below.
Performs engineering work on complex capital improvement projects involving water distribution systems, storm drain systems, sewer collection systems, water reclamation plants, and other systems; prepares or administers consultant Utility Master Plans and construction contract documents including drawings, city standard contract specifications, and technical specifications for capital improvements; researches data to determine design criteria in accordance with required standards and codes; provides technical input to Water Resources staff regarding system modifications; and tracks budget and schedule for all capital improvement projects. The ideal candidate will possess operational knowledge of wastewater treatment plants and sewer and storm water systems.
Oversees and reviews plans, maps and easements; checks tentative maps, final maps, improvement plans, and industrial/commercial building sites for conformance with conditions of approval, city plan check manual and city standards and policies; writes engineering conditions for new development including subdivisions, site plans, conditional use permits, and planned unit developments; works in the City’s permit center, as assigned; and oversees initiation of new financing districts (LLDs and CFDs) and assists in annual update of City’s existing districts. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of land development processing including maps, easements, conditions of approval, and improvement plan check.
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and characteristics:
- Demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices including public works design and construction, master planning, subdivision and surveying, environmental permitting, and public works contract code
- Demonstrated project management and consultant oversight skills and experience in the design and construction of complex engineering projects
- Work independently and collaboratively with others
- Exercise sound judgment, initiative, flexibility, and creativity
- Excellent communication skills to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing
Experience: 3 years of progressively responsible public works related professional engineering experience in civil, wastewater, water, transportation or related engineering field.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or related field.
License: May require the possession of a valid CA driver’s license at the time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.
Certification: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of CA with good standing.
