The City of Livermore is currently recruiting for a City Engineer to manage the Engineering Division, including transportation/traffic, construction administration and inspection, capital improvement project design and current development engineering. Division management occurs through technical and professional staff.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities & characteristics:
· Advance knowledge of principles and practices of modern civil, structural, hydraulic, sanitary and traffic engineering.
· Understanding the unique challenges of a large, complex City Engineering division.
· Strong attention to detail with ability to prioritize and multi-task.
· Exemplifies customer service and values and possesses high ethical and professional standards.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information and records.
· Self-starter who is quick to learn City and department policies and procedures and can adapt quickly to changing conditions and workflow.
· Strong Project Manager.
· Ability to develop staff and implement new practices as required.
· Advanced knowledge of working with elected officials and staff from all levels throughout the City.
· Exceptional communicator able to make presentations to boards, commissions, City Council and community members.
Ideal Candidate
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Six years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering work with registration, including two years experience supervising engineering staff involved in a variety of public works and development projects. The best qualified candidate will have extensive and substantial experience leading, developing and managing teams.
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university. Master’s degree in an applicable field is desirable.
License: Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.
Other Requirements: Willingness and ability to work scheduled and emergency overtime; attend meetings, workshops and seminars during work and non-work hours as assigned.
Special Requirements: Registration in the State of California as a Professional Civil Engineer. Registration in California as a Land Surveyor is desirable, if civil engineering license does not cover land surveying.
The probationary period for this Livermore Management Group position is 12 months.

Benefits
Medical/Dental Insurances: The City pays $1,592 per month towards the cost of medical, dental, and additional life insurance; unused balance is paid to the employee as taxable income.
Life Insurance: $100,000 basic life insurance coverage provided by the City with an option to purchase supplemental life insurance.
Long Term Disability: LTD benefit is available, as per the LTD plan specifications.

*Probationary employees must satisfactorily complete their probationary period before advancing to the second year accrual rate.
Administrative Leave: 80 hours per year with an additional 16 hours for every 5 years of service, not to exceed 48 additional hours.
Holidays: The City observes 12 holidays per year.
Sick Leave: Equivalent to 8 hours per month.
Retirement: Provided through the Public Employees’ Retirement System. The City pays five percent (5%) of the employees required eight percent (8%) PERS contribution for the 2.7% @ 55 retirement formula. Employees contribute three percent (3%) of the required employee contribution.
Note: Earnings from this job are NOT subject to Social Security withholdings, except for Federal Medicare. As such, upon retirement, while you may qualify for a pension based on your earnings from this job, it may affect the amount of Social Security benefits you may receive. Retirement Health Insurance Program: Employees receive a city contribution of four percent (4%) of base salary to a retirement health savings account.
Health and Fitness Reimbursement: Up to $75 per month.
Tuition Reimbursement: Up to $2,000 per year
