The Maintenance Assistant must demonstrate entry-level knowledge of basic building maintenance and working experience in a trade skill ie. basic electrical, plumbing, maintenance, masonry, custodial, carpentry, painting, doors, gates, fences, etc. The position provides maintenance and custodial services for multiple locations within the City. Additionally, this position will provide support for our many special events including summer concerts, outdoor movie series, 4th of July Celebration, Kite Day and many other special events held in the City.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
o Responsible for ensuring the routine cleanliness of tennis court facilities.
o Performs minor nonstructural repairs and replacements on doors, fences, and buildings as required.
o Monitors the physical condition of the recreation facilities and reports maintenance requirements to Supervisor.
o Ensures that City standards of cleanliness and appearance are met or exceeded in offices, restrooms, exterior areas, hallways, parks, recreation facilities, etc.
o Ensures that the safe handling and storage of chemicals/cleaners used is in compliance with safety standards.
o Posts Tennis and Picnic Rentals at CSD kiosks on a weekly basis.
o Place orders for needed special events, aquatics, and facility supplies and equipment.
o Completes assigned tasks within established time-frames and meets expected level of quality
o Performs all work using safe work practices and in accordance with City policies
o Assists with city-wide special events including preparation, set-up and take-down of events.
o Assists with updating, posting and distributing of banners and other marketing materials for special events.
o Performs other duties as assigned; works with minimum direct supervision; operates effectively on a team.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience: A High School diploma/GED equivalent and three to six months of related experience and/or training is required. Certifications or trade cards are helpful but not required. First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications are a plus.
Language Skills: Incumbent must have the ability to write simple reports, use a computer, and convey information to the general public in English. Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and procedural manuals, and maintenance instructions in English is required.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals is required.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form and the ability to deal with problems, new challenges and change is necessary.
Physical Demands: The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds or more.
Working Hours: This position is 18-20 hours per week position. The ideal candidate can work two full days and one half day during a given week.
This position is not eligible for benefits. However, paid time off in accordance with state law is provided.
