The City of Mill Valley seeks applicants for the position of Associate Engineer. Mill Valley is a wonderful place to work and you will find ample opportunity to identify and take on projects and programs that will further you career. Under direction of the Engineering Manager, the Associate Engineer performs professional engineering work of average difficulty in municipal public works design, construction, and maintenance projects and performs related work as required.  Engineering professionals with design experience are highly preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an engineering professional with at least four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience who is a self-starter, hungry to learn, and looking for a position that affords them the opportunity to grow professionally and expand their skills.   The successful applicant will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the nuances and complexities of civil engineering in a municipal context and display superior customer service skills. He/she should be a proven collaborator who is comfortable in lead roles and has the ability to communicate effectively.   A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and possession of your Professional Engineering License are highly preferred. Lastly, a can-do attitude and good sense of humor are essential!



  • Leave – the City provides a generous leave package:

  • Health Insurance – City provides the full premium for the Kaiser Family Plan or the equivalent thereof for employees who elect Health Net HMO or Health Net PPO.
  • Dental Insurance – City provides the full premium for Delta Dental
  • Retirement
    • New employees with no prior CalPERS service or have a break in CalPERS service of 6 months or more: 2% @ 62
    • New employees who are “classic” CalPERS members and do not have a break in service of more than 6 months: 2.5% @ 55
  • 457 Deferred Compensation – the City offers up to $600/year in matching contributions toward deferred compensation
  • Other – the City also pays the premium for Long-Term Disability Insurance and Life Insurance ($50,000)
