The City of Morgan Hill is currently recruiting for one Utility Worker in the Engineering & Utilities Department. The Utility Worker classification is a flexibly-staffed classification of Utility Worker I/Utility Worker II and the City can fill the position at either level.


UTILITY WORKER I

DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance of water supply and wastewater collection system facilities and appurtenances; performs related work as required.
 
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
Utility Worker I is the journey level class in this maintenance series.  This class is distinguished from the Utility Worker II class in that the Utility Worker II position requires the ability to independently perform a number of assigned tasks skillfully and safely while providing limited lead direction to a small crew on a job site.  In addition, the operation of equipment, vehicles and power tools is a regular responsibility of the Utility Worker I class.

UTILITY WORKER II

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled work in the maintenance of water supply and wastewater collection system facilities and appurtenances; performs related work as required.
 
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Utility Worker II is the advanced journey-level class of this series and incumbents are competent to independently perform a number of assigned tasks skillfully and safely.  The operation of equipment, vehicles and power tools is a regular responsibility of this class.  In addition, the Utility Worker II position requires the possession of a Grade I Water Treatment Operator Certificate or a Wastewater Collection System Operator Certificate or the equivalent (described below).  This class is distinguished from the next higher class of Senior Utility Worker in that in that the Senior Utility Worker provides lead direction to crews in the utility maintenance operations assigned to maintain the City's water distribution and sewer collection systems.
