ENGINEERING INTERN

Wage:  $14.00 - $18.00 DOQ

The Citrus Heights Water District is seeking a motivated college student majoring in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Construction Management, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field who is looking to obtain professional experience within a dynamic team environment.  This opportunity is a great way to obtain experience in a public agency and exposure to the Water Industry.  The position will be filled immediately and is expected to last at least one (1) semester.  The work schedule will be negotiable, based on the incumbent’s school schedule. The Engineering Department’s workweek consists of the following hours:

Mondays - Thursdays: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Fridays: Office Closed

POSITION
This Engineering Intern position is intended for an upper-level college student.  The Engineering Intern will provide intern-level support to the Engineering Department.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist Engineering staff with main replacement project related duties.
  • Assist Engineering staff with outside agency/developer projects within the District, and related duties.
  • Prepare miscellaneous maps.
  • Conduct field verification of facilities and prepare data on existing water facilities within portions of the District.
  • Enter data in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and various District databases.
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities for satisfactory job performance would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

Education:
Equivalent to the completion of two or more years of college with major coursework in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Construction Management, Geographic Information Systems, Hydraulics, Hydrology, and/or Water Modeling.

Experience:
No experience required. The following experience is preferred:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office; in particular Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience working in an office environment and using a variety of office equipment.
  • Experience interpreting construction plans and specifications.

License and Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver license is preferred.
