THE DEPARTMENT

The City of Rocklin Fire Department provides fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue services within a response area of 19.6 square miles. Within the last few years, the department has brought into service two new engines and a new Tiller ladder truck. The Rocklin Fire Department is made up of 42 dedicated, trained professionals who work tirelessly to keep the community safe through our three staffed fire stations, administration, and fire prevention. With a population that has grown by over 60% since the year 2000, the Rocklin Fire Department is constantly adapting and responding to the diverse and ever changing needs of the community.

THE POSITION

Join the City of Rocklin Fire Department as a Firefighter! Rocklin's Firefighter duties include responding to fires, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, and other emergency and non-emergency situations. Providing medical services at the Paramedic level (Paramedic Certificate Incentive available) and participating in suppression, prevention, and inspection activities to protect life and property. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent to graduation from high school;

AND

Current employment with an urban/suburban California fire suppression agency with at least three (3) years of full-time, paid experience comparable to the City’s classification of firefighter or higher rank.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License with a Firefighter Endorsement is required within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • A valid Paramedic license.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications are accepted online. While always welcome, a resume will not be accepted in lieu of an official City application. The application must be completed in its entirety. This recruitment will accept up to 100 qualified applications and may close at any time. 

Applicants will be screened against the minimum requirements. Those who qualify may be further screened to identify the best qualified candidate. Depending on the number of applications received, screening may consist of an application screening, written exam, practical exam, oral interview or any combination.

Candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be invited to a written examination tentatively scheduled for the week of February 7, 2022.

A variety of plans are offered through CalPERS.  The City contributes up to $1,200 per month to active employees, and the employee pays the difference.  

Dental and Vision

City-paid for employees and dependents.

Retirement - CalPERS 
Classic Members: 3% @ 50 
PEPRA Members: 2.7% @ 57 

Deferred Compensation

City offers $100 per month match for all employees. PEPRA employees also receive an additional $200 per month, no match required.

Insurance

Life and AD&D - City-paid $20,000 life insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment

Education Incentive

Ranges from $75 - $275 per month based on level of education and/or certification

Uniform Allowance: 

$36.54 per pay period
