ABOUT THE POSITION: Sacramento Public Library is seeking an emotionally intelligent, inspirational and strong team leader to reinvent and manage our Communications Department. The Communications Manager is responsible for working closely with managers and staff and will lead the vision for strengthening the Library’s brand and messaging.

 

The Communications Manager will plan, direct and manage activities and operations of the Library’s Communications and Marketing Department; work closely with executive team and managers to develop public relations, branding and messaging; manage the Library’s web, social media and intranet platforms and provide leadership in development of system-wide plans, policies and procedures.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY: The Sacramento Public Library is the fourth largest library system in California, serving more than 1.4 million residents in Sacramento County, including the incorporated cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Galt, Isleton, Rancho Cordova and Sacramento.  The system is a Joint Powers Authority, governed by a 15-member board comprised of elected officials from each of the member jurisdictions, with representation based on each jurisdiction’s population.  The Authority operates 28 libraries, including the Central Library in downtown Sacramento, has 300 FTE staff members, a collection of 1.5 million volumes and an annual budget of $48 million. Nearly 800,000 residents have library cards and 8 million items are circulated annually. The Library welcomes more than 4 million visitors annually.  

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of equivalent education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities required would be: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field is required. Master’s degree in Communications, marketing Public Administration or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university is preferred. Five (5) years’ experience in communications, public relations or marketing with two (2) years at the supervisory or managerial level. Experience in public libraries, nonprofits or government agencies preferred.

This position is covered by an unrepresented personnel resolution and the salary is within the management broadband.

 

The hiring range for this position is $85,170 to $96,000 depending on qualifications.
