This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for networking and security. We currently have vacancies in the Infrastructure Division supporting a multi-vendor enterprise network conducting network design, configuration and implementation as well as reporting on all aspects of network performance metrics and ensuring compliance with the information security policy based on the City's security governance model.

Job Expertise

     * Knowledge and expertise to include:

          + Firewall configuration and policy management, security service configuration such as IDS/IPS, antivirus and anti-bot, and other security appliance configurations such as VPN and load balancers

          + Software defined networks configuration and management.

          + Configures and manages Enterprise cloud platforms

          + Experience with CheckPoint, Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks firewalls and unified threat management architecture

     * Working knowledge of well-known networking protocols and services (TCP/IP, LDAP, Radius, IPX, NETBUI, IPSEC, HTTPS, SSL, SSH, SFTP, SMTP, PPTP, PPP, SMB, SNMP, RIP, Windows, UNIX, Linux)

     * Desirable knowledge of and experience with designing, implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting multi-vendor enterprise networks, including network optimization, dynamic internal and external routing such as BGP and OSPF, switching, Spanning Tree, and/or VoIP technology.

Selection Process

 

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to the Job Specific Questions.  Salary Information:

 

     Enterprise Information Technology Engineer I (EITE I) - $91,790.40 - 111,633.60

 

     Enterprise Information Technology Engineer II (EITE II)- $97,240.00 - 118,456.00

 

     The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in the EITE I and EITE II classifications shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.   

 

      

REQUIRED SKILLS:

     Qualifications

     1.     Education: 

     a.     EITE I: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, Business and Public Administration, or a closely related field.

     b.     EITE II: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, Business and Public Administration, or a closely related field.

    

     2.     Experience: 

     a.     EITE I: three (3) years of increasingly progressive experience equivalent to performing technical work of complex difficulty to provide desktop, data security, application and system administration, and server or network administration or software applications to support end users, electronic business systems/solutions, and software applications for high availability and uptime.

     b.     EITE II: four (4) years of increasingly progressive experience equivalent to performing technical work of complex difficulty to provide desktop, data security, applications and system administration, and server or network administration or software applications to support end users, electronic business systems/solutions, and software applications for high availability and uptime.

    

     3.     Acceptable Substitutions: Two (2) years of related experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the education requirement

      

     4.   License or Certificates:

    a. EITE I: Possession of an industry certification that demonstrates expertise in information technology field, such as a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certificate for Windows Server Enterprise, Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Network Associate (CCNA) certification, Brocade Professional IP Administrator (BPIPA) certification, Certified Information systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Administrator (CISA), OR an equivalent professional, industry recognized certification acceptable to the City. 

   b. EITE II: Possession and maintenance of a current (non-expired) industry certification that demonstrates expertise in the relevant information technology field, such as a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certificate for Windows Server Enterprise, Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Network Associate (CCNA) certification, Brocade Professional IP Administrator (BPIPA) certification, Certified Information systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Administrator (CISA), OR an equivalent professional, industry recognized certification acceptable to the City.   

 

     5.     Employment Eligibility:  Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in this country. Please be informed that the City of San Jose will not prepare or file a labor condition application with the Dept. of Labor.

 

Passing a San Jose Police Department background check is a condition of employment.
