This position is responsible for performing transactional paralegal duties requiring both sound judgment and good technical skills. These duties may include, but are not limited to, drafting, reviewing and editing a variety of contracts, resolutions and ordinances, coordination with City or other government departments or agencies, involvement in the City Council agenda process, and responding to public record act requests. The skill level of this position places strong emphasis on accuracy, quality, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills. Incumbents must be proficient in the use of personal computers and able to work with various types of software in the Windows environment.
Depending upon qualifications, the successful candidate may be hired at the Legal Analyst I or Legal Analyst II level. The annual salary range for a Legal Analyst I is $67121.60 to $81619.20 and the annual salary range for a Legal Analyst II is $73257.60 to $89044.80.
In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Legal Analyst classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications: Training and experience equivalent to:
1. Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Legal Analyst I: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible investigations or paralegal experience, of which at least one (1) year includes experience performing investigations, processing liability claims, OR researching and preparing legal documents such as discovery documents, pleadings, contracts, ordinances, or resolutions.
Legal Analyst II: Six(6) years of increasingly responsible investigations or paralegal experience, of which three (3) years include experience performing investigations, processing liability claims, OR researching and preparing legal documents such as discovery documents, pleadings, contracts, ordinances, or resolutions.
3. Acceptable Substitution
An Associates Degree OR 60 semester units/90 quarter units from an accredited college or university AND additional years of increasingly responsible investigations or paralegal work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two (2) years of the education requirement.
Completion of a Paralegal program, including possession of a Paralegal Certificate, may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience OR one (1) year of the education requirement.
4. Required License: Possession of a valid State of California driver's license.
