The San Jose Fire Department is seeking to fill a Senior Engineer (Fire Protection) in the Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP). Under the direction of the Fire Marshal, the Senior Engineer will perform a supervisory role providing leadership to a group of staff to include associate engineers that perform plan reviews and inspections of life safety systems, fire alarm systems, and fire suppression systems. The incumbent will also perform administrative duties in support of the engineering division needs, monitor performance of the division, coordinate with other city agencies, write policies and procedures, and exercise judgment in the application of applicable codes such as California Fire Code, California Building Code, Title 19 Public Safety Code, and NFPA standards.

1. Education: Graduation from an accredited College or University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Fire Protection Engineering.
2. Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience.
3. Licenses or Certificates:
a. Possession of a Certificate of Registration in the required discipline: Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
b. Possession of a valid driver's license in the State of California is required.
