The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in this classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

 

Mineta San Jose International Airport is recruiting for an Electrician Supervisor in its Facilities and Engineering Division.  This position reports directly to the Building Management Administrator for various facility management operations.  This position supervises and guides the work of assigned airport electricians, senior electricians, and other technical staff performing duties involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.  These responsibilities include low and high voltage electrical distribution systems associated with both building infrastructure and the airfield. 

 

Key responsibilities and typical duties include but not limited to:

 

• Supervises the operation, maintenance, repair and modification of major Airport systems such as Building Management Systems, Fire Alarm systems, Access Control/card reader systems, Airfield Lighting Control Systems, generators, fire pumps and UPS.

• Ensure compliance with FAA circulars and Part 139 requirements through oversight of the Airport’s airfield electrical program

• Provide technical expertise on all Airport design projects, and be able to read, interpret, and understand the construction/electrical drawings associated with these projects

• Respond and provide direction to assigned staff in the event of Airport emergencies.

• Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of assigned staff

• Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques

• Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work

• Investigate and complete documentation for work related accidents.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

 

1. Education and Experience:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program AND two (2) years of lead electrician experience as a journey level Electrician.

 

2. Acceptable Substitution:

Documented proof of completion of 8,500 hours of both course work and experience in all of the areas covered in the State of California Electrician Apprenticeship Standards may be substituted for completion of a recognized Electrician Apprenticeship program. These areas include residential wiring, commercial and industrial wiring, intercom and signals, controls, underground work, trouble shooting, finishing and fixture hanging, solid state controls, and stock and inventory. Completion of the State of California Electrician Certification exam will be accepted as proof of completion of 8,500 hours of electrical work experience.

 

3. Licenses or Certificates:

Possession of a valid State of California driver’s license.

 

4. Employment Eligibility:

Please be informed that the City of San Jose will NOT sponsor, represent or sign any documents related to visa applications/transfers for H1-B or any other type of visa which requires an employer application.  Candidates are required to satisfactorily complete and pass a fingerprint based Criminal History Records Check prior to being considered for a position in this class at the Airport. This Airport position requires a background check and a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) check. The candidate must be fingerprinted and qualify under all applicable TSA and Airport regulations.
