The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Office Specialists to work as Vote Center Trainers (Office Specialist) to assist in the upcoming November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election. The Elections Division is a fast-paced environment; this is an excellent opportunity to work with a group of dynamic, well-organized and highly efficient individuals committed to the democratic process.
We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Vote Center Trainer to be hired for the following duties:
- Deliver training to Vote Center Representatives on San Mateo County Elections Procedure, Vote Center set-up and voter assistance.
- Facilitate hands-on training scenarios for Vote Center staff.
- Identify uniquely-skilled staff for special assignments.
- Set up, restore and restock the classroom between training classes.
- Communicate any notes from the Vote Center Representatives regarding policy, equipment or supplies to the Training Supervisor.
Vote Center Training is expected to begin around the end of September. Those hired can expect to work for approximately eight weeks including on-site job training, teaching classes and working at a 4-day Vote Center as a Vote Center Lead. The last expected day of employment will be Election Day, November 3, 2020.
Training is held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during the period of operation. Daily schedules may include reporting to unit supervisors before a session or staying after training to complete further work. These positions may require evening and/or weekend work assignments.
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment. Hourly wage: $25.23.
IMPORTANT: The County of San Mateo has implemented best-practice guidelines in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure safety of the general public and staff. Such measures include, but are not limited to: enforcing social distancing, and providing staff with personal protective equipment, such as gloves, hand sanitizer, face masks and cleaning the classroom and equipment between training sessions.
Ideal Vote Center Trainer candidates will have strong public speaking abilities, past teaching or training experience with adult learners, computer proficiency and previous knowledge of vote center procedures, vote center applications and equipment.
Critical skills for all election worker office specialist positions include the ability to prioritize work, learn new jobs tasks quickly, and understand and carry out oral and written directions.
The selected individuals must be available for the entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.
