The Public Works Department’s Environmental Services Division (ESD) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s 15.7 million gallon per day (MGD) conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The WWTP serves a population of more than 140,000 with an annual operating budget in excess of $10 million and has a staff of 28 professional and technical personnel. Planned upgrades to the WWTP include new liquids treatment process facilities consisting of new headworks, primary treatment, and a five-stage biological nutrient removal/membrane bioreactor (BNR/MBR) process.

What You’ll Do
The WWTP Manager reports to the ESD Deputy Director and is responsible for planning and supervising the daily operation and maintenance of the City’s treatment facility. The WWTP Manager ensures compliance with all federal, state, regional and local laws, regulations and permits and also establishes effective management controls over processes.

Who You Are
- A highly motivated individual who possesses knowledge of the theory and practice of wastewater treatment and of machines, equipment and material used in such treatment.
- An individual who possesses the ability to assist in planning and organization of process improvements and plant upgrades so that existing processes and equipment are not negatively affected.
- An individual who is knowledgeable of budgeting principles and techniques, practices of project management, and principles of organization, administration and personnel management.
- An individual who possesses the ability to analyze biological and physical processes and make adjustments to optimize waste treatment and disposal.

What You Bring
- You possess at least five years of increasingly responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations, including four years of wastewater treatment plant operator qualifying experience with two years of supervisory experience.
- You have the equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil or sanitary engineering, environmental sciences or a related field.
- You possess a Grade V Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the State of California OR you possess a certificate of registration as a professional chemical, mechanical or civil engineer in the State of California, with the ability to obtain a Grade V Wastewater Treatment Plant Certificate within a minimal amount of time from date of appointment.
- You possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
Salary: $12,078 - $14,406/Month

A limited number of the most highly qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process which may consist of an oral panel interview, tentatively scheduled for December 6, 2018.
The process may include an Oral Panel interview and department interview. An employment list will be established from those who pass the examination process. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least 6 months with the possibility of an extension for an additional 6 months. Once placed on an employment list, and at the time a vacancy occurs, eligible candidates may be contacted by the hiring department and scheduled for additional department interviews.
