The Public Works Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s 15.7 million gallon per day (MGD) conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The WWTP serves a population of more than 140,000 with an annual operating budget in excess of $10 million and has a staff of 28 professional and technical personnel. Planned upgrades to the WWTP include new liquids treatment process facilities consisting of new headworks, primary treatment, and a five-stage biological nutrient removal/membrane bioreactor (BNR/MBR) process.

What You’ll Do
The WWTP Manager reports to the Deputy Director, or higher level personnel, and is responsible for leading the Operations, Maintenance and Laboratory teams at the City’s treatment facility. The WWTP Manager is responsible for the daily planning and supervision of staff, for establishing effective management practices, and for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, regional and local laws, regulations and permits.

What You Bring
- You possess at least five years of increasingly responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations, including four years of wastewater treatment plant operator qualifying experience with two years of supervisory experience.
- You have the equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil or sanitary engineering, environmental sciences or a related field.
- It is preferred (not required) that you possess a Grade V Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the State of California; OR it is preferred (not required) you possess registration as a professional chemical, mechanical or civil engineer in the State of California, with the ability to obtain a Grade V Wastewater Treatment Plant Certificate within a minimal amount of time from date of appointment, preferred (not required).
- You possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.

Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment with some ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch squat, stoop, reach crawl, twist climb, and lift 25 pounds; some exposure to extreme noise, outdoors, electrical hazards, vibration, chemicals, dust, toxic waste, and explosive materials.
Salary: $12,752 - $15,209/month

** SIGNING BONUS/REFERRAL AWARD**
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager hired from this recruitment will receive a signing bonus of $1,500 upon successful completion of probation. If an eligible merit City employee refers a candidate who is subsequently hired from this recruitment, he/she shall receive a $1,500 referral award in accordance with the City’s Targeted Recruitment Program Policy.
