Senior Recreation Leader I
Are you a creative and enthusiastic person who thrives in a collaborative, positive learning environment? Do you want to gain valuable work experience and have fun? If so, consider becoming a Recreation Leader for the City of San Ramon’s Teen Centers. The City’s Teen Centers provide structured recreational activities and educational opportunities for up to 55 middle school students during the school year.
What does a Recreation Leader do?
The Teen Center Recreation Leaders:
Supervise and engage with the teen center participants
Demonstrate recreation activities according to a prepared program
Maintain a safe, fun environment
Administer first aid as required and handle emergency or out-of-the ordinary situations
Provide feedback and offer suggestions for improvements
Open, close and secure the teen centers
Use their creative ingenuity to implement the programs at the Teen Centers
The work schedule coincides with each site’s middle school bell schedule, and a typical work day is from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Recreation Leaders may also have the opportunity to work special City events, weekends, holidays, and shifts at other facilities.
What will I learn in this position?
In additions to valuable work experience, you will:
- Gain knowledge of common sports, games and recreation activities for middle school students
- Learn techniques to communicate well with co-workers, supervisors, school officials, and the general public
- Gain knowledge of leadership techniques
- Learn how to develop an effective team
- Learn how to be reliable and dependable
Do I need previous work experience?
Not necessarily. Here are the minimum requirements for this job:
- Minimum 16 years old
Possession of or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid with AED certification
Appropriate clearance from fingerprinting and background check and a negative TB certificate dated within the past two years
