Description

Applications are being accepted for the position of Emergency Medical Technician - BLS Ambulance with the City of South San Francisco. 

HOURLY RATE: $20.75 - $25.22 per hour

The City of South San Francisco is a General Law city with a population of 68,000 residents that grows to 110,000 during business hours. South San Francisco is strategically located on the west shore of the San Francisco Bay, in northern San Mateo County, 10 miles south of San Francisco. This City is also located along the Bay Area's main transportation routes, included 101, 280, Caltrain, BART, San Francisco Bay Ferry, and the San Francisco International Airport.

The City of South San Francisco is a full-service city with 12 City Departments including Police; Fire; Parks and Recreation; Public Works; Economic and Community Development; City Attorney; Library; Finance; Information Technology; Human Resources; City Clerk; and Office of the City Manager.  The City has a Council-City Manager form of government with more than 460 full-time regular employees.

THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Fire Department provides its residents with service in fire suppression; first-responder and ambulance transport emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue and fire prevention, investigation and public education. The Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower and is comprised of 92 dedicated staff members.

THE POSITION:

Under general supervision, engages in medical aid treatment and transport activities to protect life; drives, operates, and maintains all assigned department apparatus and equipment; assists and participates in training programs; public education; accurately completes electronic patient care reports, physician certification statements, and incident reports; and does related work as required. This is a responsible at-will position with a variety of challenging assignments. There are full-time and part-time positions available.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Mobility to work in emergency and non-emergency settings; lift or carry 110 lbs; operate a motor vehicle under emergency and non-emergency conditions; strength and stamina to perform service duties; vision to meet department standards; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and by radio.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and satisfactory driving record
  • Must possess a valid EMT Certification or National Registry, and the ability to be certified by San Mateo County EMS Agency
  • Must include proof of prior experience related to the position
  • Must possess a valid CPR “Healthcare Provider” card, American Heart Association or equivalent

Application packets will be screened based on the qualifications and criteria required for the position. Those applicants who best meet the needs of the City will be invited to participate in the City’s selection process. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement in the selection process. 

The first review of candidates is scheduled for September 7, 2021, with interview to follow shortly after. Any application received prior to September 7, 2021, at 9am will be reviewed at this time. Candidates who successfully complete the oral interview appraisal will be invited to the next phase of the selection process.
