Recreation Leader
Part-Time
Salary Range: $15.50- $19.78 hourly
The City of St. Helena has an exciting opportunity to fill part-time positions in the Parks & Recreation Department. This is a great opportunity to become part of a team of dedicated individuals that take pride in serving the local community.
About This Role:
We are seeking responsible, reliable and enthusiastic individuals to work in a recreation setting and directly with the St. Helena community. Under the supervision of the Recreation Program Recreation Leaders will work with children in a variety of camp programs and implement camp activities. Recreation Leaders may also assist with other programming for the department such as special events, youth and family activities Additional program opportunities are available year-round.
What You'll Do:
- Ensures the safety and well‐being of all participants.
- Works cooperatively with the Recreation Supervisor in planning and leading age‐appropriate activities.
- Initiate & maintains a positive rapport with participants, staff, and community.
- Makes every attempt to answer questions and concerns and/or makes appropriate referrals to the Recreation Supervisor.
- Cares for and maintains all equipment and City of St. Helena property. Informs Recreation Supervisor of damaged/unsafe equipment or property immediately.
- Reports serious injuries and accidents immediately. Fills out appropriate injury/incident report and injury log.
- Presents a positive professional atmosphere.
- Follows all Policies & Procedures.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Provide excellent customer service to all community participants and spectators.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and precise written records, forms, and correspondence.
- Evaluate situations, identify problems, and exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Maintain professionalism and composure at all times, including stressful and difficult situations and handle disputes and complaints in a calm, courteous, and tactful manner.
- Maintains safety and program discipline.
- Ensures the safety of the public and staff by inspecting and maintaining facilities and equipment.
- Monitors facility use; opens, closes, and secures building for events and assists in supervision and preparation of the facility and amenities for patron use.
- Issues and collects recreation equipment and supplies.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Recreation Leader I: Limited to no experience in recreation or related fields.
Recreation Leader II: Increased experience and responsibilities in recreation or related fields.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
Possession of Basic CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate within 60 days of date of hire.
Experience:
- Any combination of education, training and experience which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.
- Equivalent to the completion of the tenth (10th) grade
- Experience providing recreation or leisure services is desirable.
