Enjoy working with children? Want to make a difference in your community? Consider becoming a School Crossing Guard at an elementary or middle school in the City of Thousand Oaks. The City’s School Crossing Guards play an important role in the life of children who walk or bicycle to school in helping them safely cross the street at key locations.
The City is establishing a list to fill several part-time positions. Some assignments may include working on a substitute basis at various school locations. The schedule involves working approximately 15 hours per week -- 2 to 4 hours each day including approximately one and a half (1 ½) hours in the morning and one and a half (1 ½) hours in the afternoon during the school year.
Primary responsibilities include:
● Monitor and assist with the street crossing of school-age children during slow and peak traffic times
● Watch traffic flow and wait for appropriate gap between vehicles to lead groups of school children promptly across a street
● Provide appropriate safety instruction for children crossing streets and intersections

Pay Rate: $14.75 per hour
The ideal candidate should possess:
Knowledge of proper methods of crossing children at street intersections
The ability to communicate effectively with children, school officials, City staff, and the general public
Good judgment and the ability to remain calm in emergencies
The ability to maintain effective working relationships with citizens, children, school officials, and fellow employees
Requirements: Must have the physical ability to stand and/or walk for 2 – 4 hours per day and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must possess hearing and vision abilities, with or without correction.
