Description
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates community members about disaster preparedness for all hazards that may impact our communities and trains our volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as light search and rescue, fire safety, and team organization using the Incident Command System (ICS).
DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Emergency Services Coordinator (ESC), the CERT Intern will support the Union City and Newark CERT programs, coordinate monthly meetings, help CERT teams prepare for community outreach events and support those events.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):
- Attend community events and provide information to community members about the CERT program.
- Attend monthly Board meetings for both CERT programs and attend the monthly trainings.
- Assist CERT volunteer coordinators in scheduling monthly meetings and training.
- Respond to community members’ inquiries in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update CERT database.
- Assist with onboarding new CERT members.
Ideal Candidate
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed FEMA IS 100, 700, 317 within 30 days of employment.
- Interest in community engagement is highly desirable.
- College studies around emergency management is highly desirable.
OTHER INFORMATION:
- Part-Time position with a flexible schedule, working 10 hours per week.
- Some evening and weekend shifts are required during the second and third week of each month.
