Current vacancies exist in the Parks Maintenance Division of the Parks & Recreation Department performing general park clean-up, maintenance and improvement tasks including litter pick-up, trash removal, raking and sweeping of walkways and play surfaces, painting, weeding, digging and planting trees and shrubs.
DEFINITION: Under immediate to general direction, performs a variety of tasks required to improve, maintain, and repair the City’s facilities, infrastructure, parks, grounds and equipment.
ESSENTIAL / MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Essential Functions: This position is assigned to the Parks Maintenance Division of the Parks & Recreation Department and performs general park clean-up, maintenance and improvement tasks including litter/trash pick-up and removal, weeding, planting, sweeping, and raking. Marginal Functions: Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Basic use and purpose of general construction and maintenance tools and equipment and safe work practices. Ability to: Perform a variety of semi-skilled or skilled tasks in construction, maintenance, and repair of City buildings, parks, grounds, infrastructure and facilities; operate a variety of power tools; perform heavy manual labor; understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time and operating assigned equipment; maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating assigned equipment; maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others.
Preference will be given to those that demonstrate knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in park and facility maintenance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the above referenced knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of employment.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid Class "3" or "C" California driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Field and construction site environment; some exposure to dust and noise; some heavy lifting, standing, climbing, and bending; work with heavy equipment; work in inclement weather conditions.
Special Conditions: The City of West Sacramento will require documentation of a candidate’s identity and authorization to work in the United States prior to finalization of employment. The successful candidate will be required to have a drug screen and fingerprint clearance prior to placement at the worksite and may be required to have a pre-placement physical examinationor complete an essential job functionsstatement.
Salary and Benefits: Extra Help positions with the City of West Sacramento are not eligible for any City-provided benefits other than those required by law. The City does not participate in full Social Security, but does participate in Medicare.
Hourly Pay Scale: $11.00 - $16.00.
