Description

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and routine electrical construction, maintenance, repair and testing work. 

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a temporary/part-time position.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Electrician’s Assistant position may be considered for employment as an Intern.  Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. 

 

Temporary/Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per Fiscal Year. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Repair, replace and perform routine scheduled maintenance on street lights, traffic signals and other City-owned property.  Assist with maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, electrical equipment, and other related equipment.  Reads and interprets circuit diagrams, construction drawings, and service and repair manuals.  Prepares plans and specifications for the procurement of parts and supplies on assigned projects.  Ensures that proper safety precautions and safe works methods are followed.  Prepares and maintains accurate maintenance and repair records.  Uses and maintains a wider variety of electrical tools and test equipment.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Perform electrical inspections.  Read and review electrical prints and diagrams, and modify and update as required.  Answer emergency calls and perform emergency repairs.  Meet all assigned Standby Program requirements and take standby duty, if required.  Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.  Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the electrical or instrumental trade is highly desirable.

Experience:  One (1) year of recent experience in electrical/ electronics/ instrumentation installation, maintenance or repair.

Licenses:  Required upon hire and maintained during employment, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Benefits

Electrician’s Assistant Salary: $21.76 - $27.78 per hour

Intern Salary: $11.00 - $15.00 per hour

Temporary/Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per Fiscal Year.  The pay cycle is monthly.  Pay day is the last working day of each month. 

With the exception of workers’ compensation coverage, no other benefit compensation is provided.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% of salary to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
