To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings
The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a temporary/part-time Intern position. Work hours vary by assignment and may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Position typically works 25-30 hours per week seasonally, Spring to early Fall.
Temporary/Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per Fiscal Year.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City park and recreation sites as needed. Water, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations. Regular and consistent attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Works as a member of the City pest control crew spraying various fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other related chemicals in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, conduits, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves. May assist in street maintenance, building maintenance, or other public works projects, as required. Work cooperatively with others. Meet all Standby Program requirements, take standby duty, work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: No experience is required for the Intern position.
Licenses: Required upon hire, possession of a California Driver’s License.

Intern Salary: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
Temporary/Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per Fiscal Year. The pay cycle is monthly. Pay day is the last working day of each month.
With the exception of workers’ compensation coverage and sick leave, no other benefit compensation is provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% of salary to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
