Full-Time Head Preschool Teacher at Belmont Community Learning Center

$57,188 - $69,512 Annually*
*additional 4% salary increase scheduled in July 2025. 

 

Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to work every day in a well-established preschool?  The City of Belmont is recruiting for a Full-Time Head Teacher who will lead and provide a safe, enriching, and challenging learning environment for children aged 2-5 years old at our licensed preschool program, the Belmont Community Learning Center.  

In this full-time role, you’ll be the lead for our 2–3-year-old classroom, helping our youngest learners grow through play, learning, and exploration. You’ll create a safe and engaging space, support toilet training and diapering, and build meaningful connections with children and families. Depending on program needs, your work hours will be either 7:30 AM–4:30 PM or 9:00 AM–6:00 PM.

What We’re Looking For:

You’re someone who understands:

  • Child development milestones, especially for ages 2–5

  • Title 22 California Childcare Licensing regulations

  • Basic health, hygiene, and first aid practices for preschoolers

What You’ll Do:

  • Welcome children and families daily with warmth and professionalism

  • Lead planning and hands-on implementation of age-appropriate curriculum and play-based activities

  • Support children through toilet training and diapering routines

  • Monitor indoor/outdoor play, guiding positive interactions and resolving conflicts

  • Conduct student assessments and hold family conferences

  • Keep parents in the loop with regular updates and communication

  • Attend staff meetings, training, and preschool events

  • Help keep your classroom clean, safe, and well-stocked

  • Fill in for other classrooms as needed and serve as backup to the Center Director

What You’ll Bring:

Education:

  • Equivalent to high school diploma or GED required

  • At least 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units required (24 units preferred)

  • 3 units in adult supervision or willingness to complete within 6 months of hire

Experience:

  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience working with young children

Training:

  • Must have or be able to maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification (renewed every 2 years)

  • Preventative Health and Safety Certificate strongly preferred

Requirements:

  • All childcare employees must pass City of Belmont background check, which includes but is not limited to the Department of Justice fingerprinting scan and FBI clearance
     
  • Must pass a health screening and TB test

Retirement- The City of Belmont participates in the CalPERS Retirement Plan .  Employees are enrolled at the PEPRA Member or Classic Member subject to CalPERS regulations.

Deferred Compensation - The City makes a monthly contribution of 1.3%. of base salary and an additonal $150.00 per month into employee's 457 Deferred Compensation Account.  In addition, employees can make pre-tax contributions via payroll deduction.  

Paid Time Off: We understand the importance of work-life balance. You will receive accrual of paid time off, including vacation days, sick days, and holidays. 

  • Vacation - Accrual starts at 6.33 hours per month of service, equal to ten (10) per year.
  • Sick Leave - Earned at one day (8 hours) per month of service.
  • Eleven (11) Holidays with an additional two (2) Floating Holidays
