Senior Maintenance Worker
The City of Marysville seeks qualified candidates for this excellent promotional opportunity! We are seeking candidates for Senior Maintenance Worker.
A position in the Senior Maintenance Worker class is distinguished from lower-level maintenance classes by the responsibility for supervising others as a lead worker and performing the most skilled construction, maintenance and repair work and for frequently operating heavy power‑driven construction equipment, such as motor grader or backhoe, in finishing construction and maintenance work in exact compliance with specifications.

Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction from the Public Works Manager and/or Public Works Director.
Exercises technical and functional supervision over maintenance staff.
Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Plan, direct, and supervise maintenance and repair activities involving a wide variety of municipal public works facilities such as streets, curbs, gutters, sewers, storm drains, sidewalks, parks, and related facilities.
Supervise the operation of equipment and lead personnel involved in public works construction, maintenance and repair work.
Make recommendations on the types and kinds of equipment needed for maintenance and repair work.
Participate in difficult maintenance and repair work.
Estimate and schedule work to be done and the quantities of material needed.
Inspect work projects in progress and upon completion.
Respond to concerns about street maintenance, repair and cleaning.
Operate a backhoe, motor grader, rollers, loaders, trucks, and other power‑driven equipment in the maintenance and construction of City streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, water lines, and park facilities as a major work assignment.
Cut, level, slope and otherwise finish grades under construction.
Dig and backfill ditches and excavations.
Perform routine electrical maintenance of traffic control devices and controlled water sprinkler systems.
May assist in the installation and removal of concrete and asphalt on streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and other public facilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Tools, equipment and procedures used in skilled construction, maintenance and repair work.
The nature, type, and proper uses of materials used in public works, parks and building construction, maintenance and repair.
Sources, storage and proper care and handling of equipment, materials and supplies used in the course of work.
Operational characteristics and the routine maintenance requirements of a variety of heavy duty power‑driven equipment.
Safe work practices.
Principles of assigning and reviewing the work of others.
Ability to:
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Perform a variety of skilled tasks in street maintenance.
Assign and supervise the work of crews engaged in equipment operation and public works maintenance and repair work.
Skillfully operate, without direct supervision, a variety of heavy duty, power‑driven equipment.
Properly and safely use a wide variety of hand and power tools, and materials required for public works, parks and building maintenance, construction and repair work.
Perform heavy manual labor.
Read and interpret plans and specifications.
Estimate time, materials, and equipment needed to perform maintenance and repair work.
Maintain records and prepare complex reports.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Effectively lead an on‑going maintenance program.

Requires the maintenance of physical conditioning necessary to operate motorized equipment and vehicles. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and vehicles and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.
The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The employee may be required to work night, early morning, or weekend hours, depending on workload factors, in addition to normally scheduled work hours. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. In addition, if assigned to Public Services, may have contact with sewage, hazardous traffic situations, high-pressure water and hazardous chemicals.
