Description

Do you love helping young children learn, grow, and discover the world around them?
The City of Belmont is looking for a caring, creative, and energetic Preschool Teacher to join our team. In this role, you’ll create a safe and welcoming environment where children can explore, play, and build important skills for their future. What You’ll Do
  • Plan and lead engaging lessons, games, and art projects for preschool-aged children
  • Teach basic skills such as colors, shapes, and the alphabet, while helping children develop social skills
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, nap time, and field trips
  • Lead circle time, songs, and other fun group activities
  • Prepare and serve healthy snacks and lunches
  • Assist with toilet training and diaper changes as needed
  • Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress
  • Keep the classroom safe, clean, and organized
  • Follow Title 22 California Childcare Licensing regulations and the City’s policies and procedures
  • Support children through the stages of development for ages 2 to 5
  • Apply basic first aid and follow all health, hygiene, and safety procedures
  • Conduct family conferences and student evaluations; assess student skill levels and progress
  • Prepare written reports as directed
  • Participate in professional growth activities and trainings
  • Attend school functions, in-service training, and staff meetings
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working in a preschool or childcare setting (minimum of two years preferred)
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, lesson planning, and best practices for children ages 2 to 5
  • Creativity, patience, and a genuine love for working with young children
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and coworkers
  • High school diploma plus college coursework in early childhood development or a related field
  • Minimum of 12 units of coursework in Early Childhood Education required; 24 units preferred
  • Ability to maintain CPR and First Aid certification, renewed every two years
  • Must pass a City of Belmont background check, including DOJ fingerprint scan and FBI clearance
  • Must pass a health screening and TB test

Health Insurance - You will have access to a comprehensive health insurance plans, which include:

  • Medical insurance via the CalPERS Medical Program.  With a City contribution of up to $2,893.54 a month towards plan premium.
  • Employer paid employee dental insurance via Delta Dental (nominal monthly cost for dependents).
  • Vison Insurance via VSP for you and your eligible dependents. 

Retirement- The City of Belmont participates in the CalPERS Retirement Plan .  Employees are enrolled at the PEPRA Member or Classic Member subject to CalPERS regulations.

Deferred Compensation - The City makes a monthly contribution of 1.3%. of base salary and an additonal $150.00 per month into employee's 457 Deferred Compensation Account.  In addition, employees can make pre-tax contributions via payroll deduction.  

Paid Time Off: We understand the importance of work-life balance. You will receive accrual of paid time off, including vacation days, sick days, and holidays. 

  • Vacation - Accrual starts at 6.33 hours per month of service, equal to ten (10) per year.
  • Sick Leave - Earned at one day (8 hours) per month of service.
  • Eleven (11) Holidays with an additional two (2) Floating Holidays
