Description

Are you passionate about aquatics? If so, the City of Belmont invites you to apply to our Lifeguard and Swim Instructor positions for our Summer Aquatics Program at the Carlmont Aquatics Facility located at 1400 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002

 

Salary (depending on experience) and Hours:

Monday – Friday Shifts - NO WEEKENDS!

Lifeguard / Swim Instructor I $20.70 - $25.17

Lifeguard / Swim Instructor II $21.79 - 26.48

This is a part-time position.  Hours will range from 25 to 38 hours per week with no weekend shifts. Typical shifts are from Monday - Thursday 9:30AM-5:15PM and Fridays 9:30AM-3:15PM.

• Must be available for paid training Wednesday, June 17 – Friday, June 19, 2026.

• New Hires must be available for all 6 weeks of the summer aquatics season from June 22 – July 31, 2026. Returners must be available for majority of the summer.

• Pool closed Friday, July 3, 2026 for the Holiday.

 

Lifeguard Certification

Must hold or obtain ARC Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED and First Aid Certificates by June 1st, 2026. With proof of payment, the City will reimburse you for the cost of the lifeguard certification training at the end of the aquatics season if certification is obtained between August 2025 and June 2026.

What You Will Do

Lifeguards/Swim Instructors will ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies and instructing swim lessons for participants of all ages.


The essential functions of this position include: maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency; provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services; perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility; prepare and maintain appropriate reports; possess thorough knowledge of rescue techniques; understand and enforcement of facility rules, policies and procedures, demonstrate leadership, public relations skills and decision-making skills.


In addition, Swim Instructors are responsible for instructing all swim lesson participants, ensuring the safety of all participants in their class, evaluating students participating in swim lessons, submitting completed participant report cards on time, and attending mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

The individual must be able to represent the City of Belmont in a professional manner and follow the City’s polices and regulations.

Ideal Candidate

Experience and Education

Must be age 15 or older by June 1, 2026

Knowledge of, and the ability to demonstrate skills in swim lesson instruction.

Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm.
