Description

Are you a team player looking for a career serving your community in the growing field of drinking water distribution? If you are hardworking, accountable, and enjoy working with a great team, Citrus Heights Water District invites applications for the position of Water Distribution Operator I/II.

The position will be filled at either the Water Distribution Operator I or Water Distribution Operator II classification, dependent upon candidate qualifications. The salary ranges for each classification are as follows:

  • Water Distribution Operator I: $34.83 – $47.02 hourly
  • Water Distribution Operator II: $38.30 – $51.72 hourly

This salary range is anticipated to be adjusted by 3% in January 2026, pending the CHWD Board of Directors’ approval for the proposed Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).

WORK SCHEDULE AND BENEFITS:
The District observes a 4/10 work schedule, Monday-Thursday, 10-hour days. The regular work schedule for the Water Distribution Operator I/II position is 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Water Distribution Operators also perform Standby Duty on a rotating basis. Standby Duty begins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and shall end at 5:00 p.m. on the following Tuesday.

POSITION DESCRIPTION, DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Water Distribution Operators are directly involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of valves, mains, services, and related potable water distribution system facilities and equipment. Performs related work as required.

Water Distribution Operator I - This is the entry-level class in the Water Distribution Operator series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The Water Distribution Operator I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of the assigned area of responsibility are learned.

Experience:

  • One year of responsible experience similar to a Water Distribution Worker with the District

License and Certificate:

  • California Class C Driver’s License
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator certificate from the State of California Water Resources Control Board within one year of hire.

Water Distribution Operator II - This is the journey-level class in the Water Distribution Operator series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual, or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level once the incumbent meets the qualification standards of the II level, demonstrates an ability to perform the full scope of the work, and meets performance standards.

Experience:

  • One year of responsible experience similar to a Water Distribution Operator I with the District

License and Certificate:

  • California Class C Driver’s License
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator certificate from the State of California Water Resources Control Board within one year of hire.
