The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. It is the goal of the Recreation Services Department to offer a balanced program ensuring all elements are offered to all age groups throughout the year.

Ideal Candidate
WHAT DOES A FACILITY ATTENDANT DO?
- Opens facilities
- Secures facilities
- Enrolls individuals in recreation classes and enters data into tracking system
- Reserves recreation facilities for residents, taking monies and balancing receipts
- Prepares and distribute Town of Colma identification cards; verifies residency
- Sets up equipment needed for classes, meetings and private parties
- Cleans up facility; provides janitorial services
- Collects fees
- Oversees building rentals
- Reports injuries and accidents
- Enforces Town of Colma departmental policies
- Participates as part of the recreation team
- Maintains records of participation, supplies and equipment
ABILITY TO:
- Represent the Town in a positive manner
- Establish, maintain and foster cooperative working relations with others from diverse backgrounds, including elected officials, co-workers and the public effectively and with courtesy, in person, via e-mail and over the phone
- Follow written and oral instructions and procedures
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, by using proper English grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Learn and interpret specific rules and policies and apply them with good judgment
- Understand and work effectively with the public
- Oversee large groups
- Deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities in situations requiring diplomacy, friendliness, poise and tact
- Learn how to use Recreation software
- Lead participants on group outings and field trips
- Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends

- Solve most work problems independently, referring unusual situations and questions to supervisor especially those matters regarding policy decisions
- Perform janitorial and light maintenance duties
CERTIFICATES
Must maintain CPR/First Aid certificates within 60 days of hire.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience in working with the public
Benefits
Part-time/temporary "casual" employees accrue one hour of sick leave per every 30 hours worked up to an accrual cap of 48 hours or six days in accordance with California's Paid Sick Leave Law (AB 1522). No other benefits are offered with this position.
