The City of East Palo Alto is seeking qualified candidates for the position of

PART-TIME

(20 hours per week)

SHUTTLE VAN DRIVER

Salary: $25.04 - $30.43 Hourly

PLUS A $7,500 INCENTIVE PACKAGE

The City of East Palo Alto is now actively seeking a friendly, compassionate, organized, and dependable part-time Shuttle Van Driver. The Shuttle Driver drives the City shuttle to designated locations within the City of East Palo Alto, and occasionally outside the City for regional events or activities, and performs related duties as assigned.

Work schedule:

Wednesday: 9:30 am - 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm-7:00 pm (7.hrs)

Thursday: 9:30 am – 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm -7:00 pm (7.hrs)

Friday: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm (4.hrs)

Saturday: 8:00 am – 8:00 pm (12.hrs) As needed

Sunday: 8:00 am – 8:00 pm (12.hrs) As needed

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will:

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.
  • Be a problem solver who can resolve issues as they arise. 
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Be able to follow instructions when provided.
  • Know the physical layout (e.g. streets, major intersections, government buildings, shopping areas, service centers) of East Palo Alto. Is desired.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills
  • Bilingual proficiency is highly desired
  • Be a team player

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Equivalent to graduation from the twelfth (12th) grade.

Experience: Six (6) months of driving experience involving the transport of passengers and public contact.

License and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid California Class B Driver’s License with passenger endorsements and a good driving record, at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of a First Aid Certificate or the ability to obtain one within 6-months of appointment.
  • Possession of a CPR Certificate or the ability to obtain one within 6-months of appointment.

 

Benefits

The City of East Palo Alto provides a benefits package that includes CalPERS retirement, life insurance, leaves and pay incentives.

Union Membership: This position is non-exempt and subject to the overtime rules of the Federal Labor Standards Board and is part of the Service Employees’ International Union group (SEIU). 

Retirement: CalPERS Classic Members - 2.5% @ 55 formula Employee pays 8% employee contribution.

* Highest three (3) year average final compensation.

CalPERS New Members—2% @ 62 formula Employee pays 7.75% employee contribution.

* Highest three (3) year average final compensation

Life Insurance: The City pays for coverage of $25,000

Sick Leave: 1.85 hours biweekly

Vacation: Accrual ranges from 40 – 100 Hours per year based on years of continuous service with the City

Holidays: 13 Paid Holidays per year

Bilingual Pay: Additional $50 / pay period for those asked to translate in languages other than English in order to perform assigned job duties. The incumbent will be required to pass a bilingual test.

Tuition Reimbursement: $600-$1,000 per year

Deferred Compensation Plan: The City offers an optional 457 Plan through Mission Square.
