ABOUT THE POSITION

 

The City of Redwood City Public Works Services Department invites you to apply for the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker III Equipment Operator in the Right-of-Way Division. The Right-of-Way Division is responsible for maintenance of the City’s public right-of-way including streets and roadways, parking lots, roadway markings and painting, streetlights, traffic signals and signs, and street cleaning.  

The position will report to the Public Works Field Supervisor and will serve as a skilled maintenance worker operating a variety of heavy equipment in the construction and maintenance of public right-of-way- assets, assist in scheduling and reviewing work, perform a variety of skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, repair streets and sidewalks, and occasionally lead a field crew in assigned work. Work will include the skillful operation of construction and maintenance equipment such as street sweepers, backhoes, paving machines, dump trucks, rollers, trucks, tractors, and skip loaders. The position will be involved in the construction and maintenance operation of streets, sidewalks and gutters, will spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets, read and interpret maps of service areas and sweeping districts, and provide technical guidance to less experienced workers.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program. Trainees perform all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Firefighter/Engineer classification within the Fire Department of the City of Redwood City. Upon successful completion of the Firefighter Academy training program and Field Training Orientation (FTO/Apprentice), incumbents of this non-sworn classification may be appointed to the sworn classification of Firefighter/Engineer and serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
• Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) OR a valid Paramedic license prior to appointment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/ Engineer.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Engineering and Transportation Department announces an opportunity for the position of SUPERVISING CIVIL ENGINEER.  The Supervising Civil Engineer works under general direction of the Engineering and Transportation Director/City Engineer.  This position is responsible for planning and overseeing the work of the Capital Improvement Program (utilities, parks/special projects for building facilities, and creek/channel/levee improvements) and inspection services and supervising and participating in design, construction, and support services.  In addition, the Supervising Civil Engineer provides technical staff assistance in the review of agreements and other engineering functions.  The Supervising Civil Engineer may be required to fulfill the duties of the City Engineer, in the City Engineer’s absence.
