San Mateo County Libraries currently has two Program Coordinator II opportunities—one supporting Public Services and another within the Human Resources Division.

1) Public Services Program Coordinator – Community Libraries

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director, the Public Services Program Coordinator plans and implements projects to strengthen customer service, safety, staffing, and operational consistency across San Mateo County’s 13 community libraries. The Coordinator will help to develop standards and training, coordinate safety & security measures, and track operational metrics to improve service delivery.

2) Training & Development / Volunteer Program Coordinator – Human Resources Division

The Training / Volunteer Program Coordinator is a project-focused role within San Mateo County Libraries’ Human Resources Division that manages the full lifecycle of staff learning and volunteer engagement. Under the direction of the HR Manager, this position builds, coordinates, and maintains the annual training calendar, coordinates volunteer intake and placements, ensures compliance and accurate records in our training and development system and in our volunteer management system, and uses dashboards, surveys, and reports to drive continuous improvement and recognition across the system.

Public Services Program Coordinator

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• In collaboration with library leadership, develop, document, and implement customer service standards and procedures for community library locations.
• Serve as the coordinator for Customer Care operations; track data, establish response standards, and monitor compliance.
• Review, update, and oversee public services standards and associated staff training materials.
• Assist with the inventory, management, and coordination of emergency equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate safety and security protocols, including incident reporting guidelines, tracking systems, and follow-up procedures.
• Work closely with the Training & Development Coordinator to develop and deliver training programs to ensure excellent customer service delivery and response to patron incidents.
• Review, update, and maintain weekend rotation schedules and staffing plans to ensure coverage and consistency across locations.

• Monitor and report on project metrics and operational data; recommend improvements.

Training & Development / Volunteer Program Coordinator

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Collaborate with leadership to develop and coordinate the annual training plan and calendar; Identify, coordinate, implement, schedule, and track staff training and summarize results in quarterly reports.
• Support professional development programs such as LEAD, mentorship, and conference participation; maintain related documentation and budgets.
• Recruit, screen, and place volunteers in coordination with Community Library Managers and Volunteer Coordinators.
• Maintain accurate records in a volunteer management system; monitor engagement and retention through regular check-ins and reports.
• Plan, coordinate, and deliver staff and volunteer recognition and development events, including Staff Development Day and Volunteer Recognition Day.
• Co-chair the Volunteer Workgroup; lead meetings, track initiatives, and support systemwide volunteer outreach and onboarding.
• Compile quarterly dashboards and summaries; identify trends and recommend improvements to strengthen engagement and program effectiveness.

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Transportation for the Bus Transit division, contributes to the mission of Golden Gate Transit by ensuring that Golden Gate Transit has the best possible trained Bus Operators. Instruct Bus Operators for safe operations of vehicles, uniform compliance, and enforcement of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Document Bus Operator Students’ performance. Must be willing to work shift assignments from Santa Rosa, Novato, San Rafael, or San Francisco Division locations. May be assigned to perform other duties.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Conducts training class for newly hired bus operators, including obstacle course, classroom and “over the road” instruction by delivering standardized curriculum.
• Develops classroom curriculum, including itinerary, lesson plans, training and testing materials and implement training for newly hired and existing bus operators.
• Acts as designated D.M.V. examiner in the testing and certification of bus operators; or coordinates with D.M.V. to get student operators V.T.T. cards and license conversations.
• Maintains complete and accurate documentation on every facet of training and testing for each student as required and mandated by state and federal governments.
• Performs individual evaluations of student operators progress in the training program.
• Conducts ongoing Verification of Transit Training Classes for existing bus operators and other commercially licensed employees who need to maintain a V.T.T.
• Supervises Bus Operators fitness -for -duty as they report to work, including observing for divergencies from normal behavior patterns, uniform appearance, grooming and possessions of driving credentials and medical card.

• Works with the Director of Training and Safety on compliance with D.O.E., D.O.T., and D.M.V. training and documentation requirements
• Develops and implement minimum standards for bus operator trainees.
• Monitors progress of trainees and provide periodic counseling and progress evaluation.
• Conducts refresher training for bus operators returning to work after extended absence.
• Testifies on training or related fields at bus operator hearings, arbitrations, or trials.

• Re-trains bus operators as directed by disciplinary hearings on accidents or rule violations.
• Evaluates new equipment and changes in existing equipment and prepare data to be used as instruction criteria. (This material is distributed to bus operators when training on this equipment) outlines and checklists.

• Compiles and maintain "Training Subjects Manuals."
• Obtains and maintain appropriate certifications.
• Works with appropriate staff in the recruiting and selection process for bus operators.
• Works with passenger relations and planning department to provide ADA training for persons with disabilities.
• Represents GGT as necessary and assist in the structure and the presentation of the annual Regional Bus Roadeo.
• Instructs and monitor operation of G.F.I farebox and radio systems.
• Observes and monitor safe operation of vehicles by riding with operators, contact and correct operators on safety procedures.
• Issues infractions and/or discipline for violations of safety policy and procedures.
• Ensures employees under their supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules.
• Performs driver safety observations by riding on board buses or observing from a moving vehicle or fixed location and provide written reports on these observations; and issues discipline for safety violations observed.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors, and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director will oversee department-wide administrative operations and strategic initiatives including organizational planning, program performance, budget development, financial accounting, procurement, contracting, human resources, recruitment, and other administrative functions. This role will supervise three staff members in the Operations Division and closely collaborate with other staff to achieve the Commission’s strategic goals.

The Deputy Director must be willing to forego involvement in all local political activity while a member of the Commission staff and publicly file an annual Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Establish and implement departmental goals, policies, and strategic plans as directed by the Executive Director.
• Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the Commission’s laws, policies, programs, procedures, and operations.
• Oversee daily administrative operations of the department including financial management, procurement, accounting, payroll, and related office operations.
• Effectively plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of direct reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Desired Qualifications

• A Master's degree in public administration, business administration, public policy, or a closely related field of study, or a juris doctor degree.

• Two or more years of demonstrated experience with public sector management, budgeting, financial accounting, procurement, contracting, and/or recruitment functions.
• Experience in the fields of campaign finance and governmental ethics.
• Experience working objectively, efficiently, and effectively under strict deadlines and highly visible, sensitive, or politicized settings.

Definition
Under close supervision, the legal intern performs various work related to and in support of legal casework being undertaken by attorneys in the Legal Division. The intern gains practical work experience through assisting the Air District’s attorneys while following guidelines and procedures defined by the Legal Division.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a temporary training position for current law students and recent law school graduates. Interns will apply their legal education to work and gain practical experience assisting experienced attorneys on a variety of cases and projects. Through this work, interns will gain valuable environmental law and regulatory experience.

The Superior Court of California, County of San Mateo is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Child Custody Recommending Counselor.
  
The Child Custody Recommending Counselor will provide mediation services and child custody recommending counseling as required by California Family Code section 3160 et seq, and will conduct investigations and prepare reports as provided in California Family Code section 3110 et seq and Family Code section 7851 and 9001.  The candidate hired for the position will work in any court department and must be able to travel to any court location in the county.

San Mateo County Public Safety Communications (PSC) is San Mateo County’s largest dispatch center and the only Tri-Community (Police, Fire, Medical) Center in the County. San Mateo County Parks (SMCP) is currently seeking a full-time extra help Bilingual Community Engagement Intern II.

This position would be based out of Flood and Friendship County Parks and primarily working with the communities surrounding these parks. 

Friendship County Park is located in North Fair Oaks, an unincorporated area of Redwood City. Through community collaboration, the small urban park was developed to provide outdoor recreation facilities and space to promote community gardening. The park is situated on San Francisco Public Utility Commission land and is managed by SMCP. Less than an acre in size, the park features 30 community garden planters, a playground, picnic tables and more. Plot use is through an agreement with SMCP and requires regular participation in meetings. 

Flood County Park is a 21-acre park located in Menlo Park. It is primarily used as a location for family and group picnicking, playground use, and walking by the local community. The park has recently opened a new multi-use sports field, tennis/pickleball court, pump track and more! 

An intern at these locations would work on improving the interpretive elements of each park and provide programming and outreach opportunities for the local communities.

The Bilingual Community Engagement intern will report to Flood Park and be able to drive to Friendship Park and other park locations as needed. The intern will be supervised by the Interpretive Division Park Staff. 

Tentative schedule for this position (subject to change):

• Tuesday – Saturday: 8 hours each day
• 1 – 2 In person workdays
• 2 Virtual workdays (work from home)
• 1 Day for Events/Programming

Examples Of Duties:

A Bilingual Community Engagement Intern would be responsible for:

1. Management of Friendship Park Community Garden, including but not limited to:
   1. Managing garden plot availability and agreements
   2. Being the primary point of contact for Community Garden participants; maintaining regular communications by County phone, text, and email
   3. Working alongside gardeners to identify and address any needs or challenges in maintaining garden beds
   4. Facilitating monthly on-site educational opportunities for gardeners with staff from San Mateo County Health, Sustainability Department, and community partners
   5. Managing on-site garden tools and supplies; identify additional supplies that may be required
2. Community Program Coordination and Outreach, including but not limited to: 
   1. Coordinating and leading programs with Community Based Organizations and Partner Organizations within the community near Friendship and Flood Parks (i.e. Libraries, Schools)
   2. Leading interpretive programs at Friendship and Flood Parks 
   3. Tabling at local community events, such as Farmer’s Markets
   4. Providing translation when needed at programs and events throughout SMCP
   5. Assisting Interpretive Division with educational outreach throughout SMCP
   6. Creating flyers and social media posts to promote SMCP
