Position Summary

This position reports directly to the Operations Control Manager, who provides general supervision, guidance, and assistance.  A substantial portion of the dispatcher’s work is assessment of unscheduled events and corrective action follow through.  Dispatcher’s work is evaluated by performance in maintaining scheduled and unscheduled service, dealing with emergency situations, supervision of bus operators, and interaction with bus transportation supervisors.
 
The primary responsibility of the Dispatcher is to make work assignments to bus operators in accordance with the labor agreement; within a geographic service area, to safely maintain scheduled and unscheduled service. A secondary responsibility is to act as Radio Controller as required.   Position may require working on extended shifts.
The first 6-months will be at a Dispatcher Trainee status. Every two months during training, there will be a step increase as follows:

Essential Responsibilities

• Develops a daily dispatch plan, based on availability of equipment and operators, and modifies the plan as conditions or events change during the day.
• Responsible for maintaining scheduled and unscheduled service at a rate greater than 99% of all schedules while minimizing additional costs of overtime.  
• Possesses the knowledge and interpretation of the labor agreement in scheduling the extra board, making work assignments, and handling a wide variety of operational situations.
• Assists, coordinates, and provides radio contact for bus transportation supervisors in the field, and dispatch them as needed to respond to situations requiring supervisor’s presence.
• Verifies accuracy and functioning of time clocks, check vehicle/operator supplies, reviews daily schedules, and verifies bus operator’s medical card and driver license.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance are required.

GENERAL INFO 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Leader I/II positions provide essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties at various facilities, including parks and community centers. This temporary, part-time position requires working an average of 15 to 20 hours per week, but no more than 999 hours per fiscal year total. The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (Athletic Fields).    This position is responsible for supervision of athletic fields during assigned work hours while providing a positive and welcoming presence at the park.  The Facilities Attendant serves as an ambassador to park visitors, ensuring renters have access to their permitted spaces, unlocking soccer goals as needed, and promoting responsible use of the facility.  The Facilities Attendant also positively enforces park and field rules, encourages users to clean up after themselves, and helps to maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all.  Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Department

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City and has positioned itself as a dynamic community hub, providing access to information, literacy resources, educational programming, and promotes civic engagement in Santa Clara. The Library Department is organized into several divisions: Administration, Adult Services, Branch Services, Customer Services, Facilities, Read Santa Clara, Technical and Technology Services and Youth Services. Santa Clara City Library is in the process of finalizing and implementing its new Strategic Plan that will support the direction of future library services. 

Position

Read Santa Clara, the adult and family literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library, has offered English as a Second Language (ESL) services since 2023, as part of a state grant project. The ESL Program Assistant provides 1:1 and small group tutoring for limited English-speaking adults to strengthen their basic English speaking and listening skills and help achieve their goals. This position works with and reports to the ESL Program Specialist and Literacy Program Supervisor. This position is responsible for supporting literacy volunteers, assessing adult learners’ literacy needs, and documenting program data for grant reporting.  The ideal candidate has a passion for serving adults with limited English language skills from historically underserved communities.

This is a grant funded position for 15 hours a week till June 30, 2026. The position’s continuation beyond this date is subject to the availability of grant funds.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

About The Position

We are seeking highly motivated, highly skilled, innovative and enthusiastic individuals to join the Recreation and Human Services Division with the City of Half Moon Bay.  As a critical member of this team you’ll be responsible for assisting in organizing and conducting a variety of recreation programs and activities.

What You Will Do

• Open, secure and close City facilities.
• Arrange chairs, tables and other equipment for events held at City facilities.
• Arrange audio system and room set-up for City Council, Planning Commission and Recreation Committee meetings.
• Monitor activities during the facility rentals and other facility usage including monitoring the time of access and departure of the group, monitoring set up and clean up quality provided by the group to ensure that department standards are met. Inspect facilities after usage ends. 
• Accept and file facility rental paperwork and drop in fees. 
• Provide customer service in person or by phone by orienting users, answering questions and resolving problems.
• Enforce department rules including facility rental policies.
• Communicate with the community in both English and Spanish (preferred).

What You Bring

Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of this classification. Knowing that any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. Such as:

Building Attendant I: Possession of a High School Diploma, or equivalent, and no experience working in a recreation setting.  Experience working in a recreation setting can substitute for the diploma or equivalent.

Building Attendant II: Possession of a High School Diploma, or equivalent; and two (2) year’s paid or unpaid work experience, or two (2) years of experience equivalent to the level of Building Attendant I.

Building Attendant III:  Possession of a High School Diploma, or equivalent; and four (4) year’s paid or unpaid work experience, or four (4) years of recreation leadership experience equivalent to the level of Building Attendant I.

Knowledge of:

• Basic mathematical functions.
• Equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.

• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.

SELECTION PROCESS

Qualified applications will be evaluated on the basis of related experience and quality of presentation.

The most highly qualified applicants will be invited to an oral interview. Applicant evaluations may include a written and physical test. Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established. Some placements may be assigned to emphasize public education as the City's needs require.

Some positions may require a health evaluation.

Facility and Sports Field Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! This job entails setting up for events and rentals, opening and closing facilities, general janitorial services, sports field preparation, working in concessions and selling food during sports games. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.
