The Position: 

Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the Electric Department of the City of Santa Clara, is seeking an experienced Senior Instrument and Controls Technician.  

The Senior Instrument and Control Technician is a senior level technical classification. The Position has a key role in the optimization of the Preventative Maintenance program and the development of SVP’s Maintenance philosophy. This classification performs maintenance and repair on all instruments, control systems, and electrical equipment in the City's power generation facilities.  The incumbent inspects, repairs, tests, adjusts, installs, and removes all power plant electrical, DCS/control, and instrumentation systems and equipment including:

• Monitors, maintain, and repairs gas turbine, steam turbine control systems, generators, transformers, and switchgear.
• Maintains, calibrates and repairs plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Performs routine and advanced trouble shooting activities
• Maintains logs, manuals, records, drawings, schematics and operating procedures in a neat and professional manner.
• Provides written reports on control system conditions when required.

 

The Sr. I&C Tech. is a leadership position and is expected to incorporate safe behavior into all activities.  The Position consistently complies with all established safety and health policies and procedures, and helps to identify and eliminate or actively manage risks in all work activities.

• Four (4) years of electric generation operation and maintenance experience in a medium sized electric generation power plant or the equivalent is required, two (2) years of which must have been at above the entry-level
• Two (2) additional years of electric generation operation and maintenance experience with an electric generation power plant or the equivalent is highly desirable. 
• Three (3) years of operations and maintenance level experience above the entry level with work assignments in the City of Santa Clara combined cycle generation facilities may substitute for the above experience requirements.

License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.
 Possession of the following certificates are required within one year of appointment for the duration of the appointment:

• Department of Transportation (DOT) Qualified Operator for Natural Gas Pipeline;
• Department of Transportation (DOT) Qualified Operator for Natural Gas Compressor Station;
• Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug Testing Program for Natural Gas Pipeline and Compression Station Operator;
• Qualified to wear a respirator;
• Qualified electrical worker, who is qualified to do switching, required within two years of appointment and for the duration of the appointment; and

Physical Requirements:

• Incumbents may be assigned to work on a rotating shift schedule.  Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, to schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.
• Employees are required to pass initial and periodic comprehensive background checks, which may include fingerprinting, to meet Federal, State and/or industry security requirements. Incumbents hired before 6/16/04 are grandfathered from the initial background requirement.
• Must be able to identify color and materials normally used in the electric trade.
• Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds in awkward positions and fifty (50) pounds from the floor to the waist.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, lift, reach, walk up and down stairs, and climb ladders at elevations of eighty (80) feet or more as necessary to perform assigned duties.

The Position: 

The Generation Technician performs the hands-on duties required to safely and efficiently operate and maintain the SVP Generation resources.  Under direction from the on-shift Sr. Generation Technician, the Generation Technician performs all manner of mechanical, electrical, and operational activities required for the City’s power generation facilities including:

 

• Controlling City power plants and monitoring remote hydroelectric facilities
• Responding to emergency situations and abnormal operations
• Repairing mechanical pumps, valves, compressors, boilers, HRSG auxiliaries, reduction gears, hydraulic systems, liquid and gas fuel systems, lube oil systems
• Repairing electrical systems, breakers, relays, meters, wiring, and motors
• Organizing and supervising contractors and employees in conducting scheduled and emergency shutdown work

 

Incumbents ensure that for all of the City of Santa Clara’s electric generation power plants that all of the systems and sub-systems are operated and maintained in an efficient, effective, and a safe manner. This is a journey-level classification in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanic series.

ABOUT THE POSITION
If you are passionate about ensuring quality and safety in engineering projects and want to make a real difference in the community, we have an excellent opportunity for you. The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting a full-time Engineering Technician/Inspector at level I or II or III (depending on experience and qualifications) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The position will support the engineering staff with technical tasks for public works improvements, public works projects, and land development projects, and will entail a mix of technician and inspection duties. The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Santa Clara City Library is seeking an enthusiastic and community-oriented Librarian with a strong public service commitment at the Mission Branch Library. This Librarian will provide library service, information, and programming for all ages, and may be responsible of the branch in-lieu of more senior staff. Constant contact and collaboration with patrons of all ages, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities, are part of the daily duties of this position.  

This is a limited-term appointment of 30-40 hours/week for up to 6 months. As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Overview:

Are you an experienced emergency management professional ready to lead critical preparedness initiatives for one of California’s largest water agencies? Valley Water is seeking a dynamic and strategic Supervising Program Administrator (SPA) to lead our Office of Emergency Services (OES).

This position plays a key leadership role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the OES unit and advancing Valley Water’s readiness, response, and recovery capabilities. Reporting to the Assistant Officer of Emergency, Safety & Security, the SPA will supervise two Senior Management Analysts and contracted staff while managing a wide range of emergency management programs and projects.

The SPA is responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing essential planning documents—including the Emergency Operations Plan, Business Continuity Plan, and the Hazard Mitigation Plan—as well as overseeing the agency-wide Emergency Steering Committee. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, program management, and coordination skills, with a solid background in emergency planning, stakeholder engagement, and strategic implementation.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Emergency Planning & Coordination:
  1. Lead development and maintenance of key planning documents including the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Hazard Mitigation Plan (in collaboration with Santa Clara County/FEMA), and Business Continuity Plans.
  2. Oversee and support emergency action planning, training, and exercise programs.
• Leadership & Supervision:

  1. Deploy the OES Strategic Plan and support continuous improvement of emergency management programs.

Office of Emergency Services Unit (Position Code 771) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period  (one year).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wildfire Resilience Coordinator will manage projects related to the overall MRCA efforts regarding wildfire resilience, including tracking and analyzing existing funding sources related to wildfire preparedness and response, supporting staff project as defined by the early action wildfire resilience plan, coordinating with other MRCA and SMMC staff members working on wildfire related projects and programs, preparing and documenting further regional needs.

This position requires a highly motivated, responsible, organized and self-starting individual who can handle an array of tasks at the same time as part of standard workload, has good judgment and can make decisions, and works well independently and as part of a small team.

This is professional and technical work pursuant to the terms of grants, contracts, and applicable regulations, involving frequent communication with others. Project managers must also build community and political support, seek funding opportunities, actively cooperate with other government agencies and non­profit organizations, and keep abreast of related planning processes. The work performed will support MRCA’s capital Workprogram for wildfire resilience including improvements, workforce development, ignition prevention and suppression, inspection and monitoring and structure hardening and other MRCA efforts related to public access, open space conservation, habitat restoration, and urban park development. Special projects assigned or led by the Chief of Staff will be supported by this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Implement multiple projects simultaneously: The project manager is the central point of contact on all issues concerning assigned projects and will be responsible for project quality. Perform project tracking, scheduling, and budget management.
• Coordinate between MRCA divisions to track agency-wide wildfire resilience efforts and guide the agency towards accomplishment of big picture wildfire resilience priorities.
• Perform day-to-day administration of grants, prepare required reports and ensure conformance with grant agreements. Analyze, verify and obtain payment approvals for invoices.
• Interagency coordination: Coordinate with Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy grantees to perform tracking and data management on wildfire resilience grants.
• Coordinate with Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, its grantees, and regional stakeholders to advance wildfire resilience efforts in Southern California.
• Determine project scope, options, and alternatives to overcome constraints. Revise as often as needed to address unexpected conditions.
• Demonstrate proactivity to initiate and drive projects, leveraging past experiences, consulting with colleagues, and referencing relevant documentation to successfully launch and manage projects without established precedents.
• Oversee consultants and contractors, manage contracts, coordinate project team and collaborate with coworkers to ensure that the project scope is completed according to grant agreements, schedules, and cost limits. Assist in selection of consultants/contractors.
• Write and coordinate grant proposals and research new funding opportunities for wildfire resilience and workforce development related planning efforts.
• Cooperate with other team members to accomplish project goals; provide support to coworkers on other projects.
• Produce written materials including staff reports, text for publication, proposals, progress reports, and a variety of other documents.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, occasionally move about inside the office to access supplies and office machinery, frequently communicate and exchange information, review handwritten, electronic and facsimile documents, observe site conditions, and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. Occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions and move between multiple work sites. The employee must occasionally move items weighing up to 20 pounds inside the office.

Required Hours And Location

Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week with some scheduling flexibility. Occasional overtime work in evenings or weekends upon prior approval by supervisor. The position will work remotely and out of the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens but may be required to travel to various other locations. Offices at the River Center are spread among multiple buildings and floors.

Public Contact

As public parklands, the majority of MRCA properties are open to the general public during operating hours. This position will have contact with members of the public in public areas such as parking lots and shared public/office restrooms, and during public meetings.
