About the Division

Engineering Services Division is comprised of four sections: Construction Management Services, Structural Engineering and Code Inspection, Material Testing Laboratory, and Survey. This division provides technical support services for Capital Improvement Projects, development/utility permit projects, inspection oversight, Underground Service Alert (USA)services, land surveying, monument preservation services, field and laboratory testing, pavement design and evaluations, and building code inspection services.

 

The Land Survey Section provides land surveying services to Capital Improvement Projects and development permit projects; Maintains the City of San Jose's system of benchmarks; Provides monument preservation services for those monuments impacted by City improvement projects; and Technical map review services for subdivision maps within the City of San Jose.

 

Position Duties

 

Salary range for the classification of Chief of Surveys is:

$133,682.64 - $162,860.88 Annually. This range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

 

The Department of Public Works is recruiting for (1) Full-Time Chief of Surveys position to provide the following typical duties and responsibilities which may include but are not limited to:

• Supervises an office technical staff in the preparation of drawings, corner records, record of surveys, reviewing improvement plans and specifications, parcel maps and tract maps.

• Provides direction and supervises several field survey crews to locate property lines, gather data for topographic surveys and stake construction projects.

• Reviews, schedules, and assigns crews to survey projects; recommends methods and procedures to efficiently complete assigned projects.

• prepares time and cost estimates for requested survey work. 

• Reviews preliminary construction drawings to determine nature and extent of required survey work; participates in pre-construction, project scheduling, and other meetings concerning survey matters.

• Reviews, approves, or examines land surveying documents (maps, plats, reports, descriptions, etc.) under supervision of the Land Surveyor.

• Manages surveying staff including supervision, hiring, training and performance evaluations.

• Plans, coordinates, and schedules all office surveying activities.

• Sets and maintains standard practices for office surveying activities and quality control.

• Consults with public and private engineers, inspectors, and contractors relative to requested work and coordinates any necessary activities.

• Communicates with clients and the public and resolves issues that arise during field surveys.

• Performs map and document research for field and office survey projects.

• Interprets construction documents for construction surveys.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (General Educational Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate)

Experience: Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible sub-professional engineering/surveying work, including three (3) years at a level of a Survey Party Chief, Senior Engineering Technician, Senior Construction Inspector, or equivalent.

Acceptable Substitutions

Up to four (4) years (equivalent to 120 semester units or 180 quarter units) of undergraduate course work in college engineering, surveying, geography, and/or mathematics, or related fields, from an accredited college or university, may be substituted for subprofessional engineering/surveying experience on a year-for-year basis.

Certifications

Possession of a Land Surveyor-in-Training certificate and possession of a valid driver's license authorizing the operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California. - Land Surveyor's license is highly desirable.

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

SVP is the only full service, vertically integrated publicly owned utility in Silicon Valley owning generation, transmission and distribution assets. Silicon Valley Power is not driven by profits, as reflected in its significantly lower utility rates when compared to other private sector utilities. Today, SVP owns, operates, and participates in more than 2,000 MW of electric generating resources delivering 4,800 GWh of electricity. SVP is growing due to data center expansion, high density developments and electrification initiatives. SVP’s peak load will be increasing from 700 MW to 1300 MW in the next 5-10 years. To accommodate the future growth, SVP is in the process of implementing a $400 million system expansion and aging infrastructure replacement plan.

 

The Position: 

This is a professional position in the classified service assigned to the City of Santa Clara’s Electric Utility Department, Silicon Valley Power (SVP). This position works directly for SVP’s Systems Support Group (SSG) which is the technology backbone of SVP.  SSG is a growing division, we directly support a large range of technology projects and modernization efforts within SVP, including activities in support of the unprecedented load growth of the Utility. 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Administrator to design, implement, and support both enterprise and utility-specific network infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Cisco technologies. The incumbent plays a critical role in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of the organization’s overall network environment, including SVP’s utility communication and control systems.

 

In this role, the Network Administrator is responsible for administering and monitoring network services, managing a variety of advanced network and security products—including Cisco firewalls and intrusion prevention systems- and maintaining compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements as well as applicable state and local mandates. This position involves supporting and maintaining complex infrastructure components such as enterprise-grade Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, wireless controllers, such as HP Aruba switches, and RSA Authentication Manager, while also managing secure VPN access and routing protocols and future state zero trust network access initiatives.

The incumbent will oversee DNS infrastructure, support VoIP systems to ensure call quality and reliability, and proactively monitor network performance to detect and resolve issues related to

connectivity, latency, or system failures. The role also requires accurate documentation of network configurations and changes, collaboration with internal teams on infrastructure projects and upgrades, and participation in organizational capacity planning.

In addition, this position supports business continuity by ensuring high availability and disaster recovery capabilities across all network components, investigates and reports on security incidents in accordance with departmental policy or direction from senior management, and provides technical leadership and mentorship to others.

DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Santa Clara Fire Department was established in 1854 when local residents formed the Columbia Hose Volunteer Fire Company. Today, the city has 9 fire stations (one more in design process) consisting of 8 engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue/light unit, 1 hazardous materials unit, 1 ambulance and 2 command vehicles. The fire department is comprised of 175 personnel staffed across five divisions and serves a population of approximately 130,000 people spread over 18.4 square miles.  The Fire Administration Division provides management, organization, and support for the various divisions of the fire department actively engaged in the protection of life and property.  The Emergency Medical Services Division is responsible for training personnel to deliver pre-hospital emergency medical services to people who live, work and visit in Santa Clara.  The Community Risk Reduction Division is primarily responsible for fire safety education, fire cause determination, inspection of high hazard occupancies, and fire code enforcement. This division also maintains a vital role as technical consultant to the fire department, the City, and the business community, advising on site construction, process installation, and the safe use and handling of hazardous materials as outlined in federal, state, and local regulations. The Field Operations Division efficiently manages over 11,000 emergency responses annually.  The Training Division provides services to the Fire Department, other City departments, industry, and the community at large.

The Position:

Firefighter I is the entry level classification in the Firefighter series. An incumbent in this classification responds to medical emergencies, fire alarms, performs rescue services, and protects life and property endangered by fire. When qualified and assigned, Firefighter I's may be assigned to paramedic duties. Performs related duties as assigned.

The Department: 

 

The Purchasing Division resides in the City's Finance Department and maintains a "centralized purchasing system" that is responsible for all purchasing and contracting activity for supplies, materials, and equipment as well as general and professional services.  The Division also operates a Central Warehouse, with over 3,000 inventory items primarily to support the City's utility departments (Silicon Valley Power and the Water and Sewer Departments). The Capital Project Management and Project Controls Program supports capital projects that deliver safe, clean water, flood protection and environmental stewardship throughout the county by providing streamlined solutions for the oversight and management of capital projects. Under this program, Valley Water has implemented and now manages a project management information system (PMIS) for projects in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and other business intelligence and analytics tools to provide enhanced project data analysis and reporting. Business Planning and Analysis Unit (Position Code 28)
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to work within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.  

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.

The Departments: 

Community Development Department

The Community Development Department is comprised of three divisions: Planning, Building, and Housing and Community Services. In general, the Department guides the ongoing physical development of the community, to ensure that construction conforms to the standards of the City and State. Within the Department, the Housing and Community Services Division provides strategic leadership for the City’s housing program and facilitates the development and preservation of affordable housing and the delivery of community services for lower income residents. The Housing and Community Services Division is staffed by nine (9) full-time positions. The Housing and Community Services Division of the Community Development Department is currently hiring for two Staff Analyst II positions. 

 

The Compliance Staff Analyst II in this Division will be essential in administering and monitoring compliance of the City's Affordable Housing Programs. This position ensures that multifamily housing projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations. The Staff Analyst II will review, interpret, and apply these regulations, as well as the City’s affordable housing agreements. Responsibilities include overseeing compliance for the affordable rental portfolio, monitoring both existing and new inclusionary units, collaborating with developers on initial marketing and lease-ups, and assisting with complex issues related to rental compliance and reporting requirements. Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is the City of Santa Clara’s municipal public power utility. The Position:  
Electric and Water System Operators (EWSO) ensure that all Electric, Water and Storm sewer systems are operated reliably, efficiently and effectively in a safe manner and restoring service in a timely way to all customers.  The EWSO has responsibility for monitoring and operation of the City's municipal electric power, water, transmission and distribution systems and for coordinating planned and unplanned power outages. As a Transmission Operator, operating personnel in this position have the responsibility to comply with NERC reliability standards and the authority to implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System. This position is staffed 24/7 365 utilizing a rotation of 12 hour shifts with Operators alternating between days and nights.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

• 1) Two (2) years of experience in an electric utility performing complex load dispatching and switching

• 2) Four (4) years of experience in an electric utility as a generating plant or substation operator with sub-dispatching responsibility

• 3) Four (4) years of experience with the City of Santa Clara Electric Department, including at least one (1) year as an journey-level or higher, electrician or lineman/linewoman 

• 4) Completion of a recognized State of California Electric System Operator apprentice program

Desirable Qualification:  A valid Transmission Operator Certificate issued by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)

LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

CERTIFICATES: Possession of the following certificate is required within one year of hire date and for the duration of appointment:

• A valid Water Distribution System Operator Certificate (Grade D-1 or above) issued by the California Department of Health Services (DHS).

• A valid Transmission Operator Certificate issued by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

Incumbents will be required to obtain and maintain any other license or certification mandated by NERC for the position of Transmission Operator and necessary for the performance of duties under the current scope of responsibilities pertaining to the SVP Transmission System.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Incumbents may be assigned to work on a rotating 12-hour shift schedule

• Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, to schedules that may include weekends, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required

• Incumbents may have to pass an initial and periodic comprehensive background checks, which may include fingerprinting, to meet Federal, State and/or industry security requirements

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

The Dixon Fire Department offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for qualified applicants pursuing a career in fire safety.  The position performs fire prevention activities to save lives and property; responds to hazardous material incidents; responds to all fire alarms with designated company; prepares and operates the necessary equipment at the scene of the fire such as a hose, ladders, chemicals, bars, hooks, etc.; administers first aid to injured patrons; performs other acts required of a Firefighter at the scene of an emergency; carries out all duties assigned by Superior Officers.  Work involves irregular hours during the day and evenings, and on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for a Principal Water Pollution Control Plan Operator.  This position, reporting to the Water Pollution Control Operations Manager, undertakes supervisory responsibilities at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (SWPCP). Their duties include providing instruction, troubleshooting, and maintenance related to plant operations, supervising training programs, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of equipment, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

 

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, and
• Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant with at least 3 years at the shift supervisor level as defined by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).  The Senior WPC Operator position at the SWPCP is considered equivalent to the SWRCB Shift Supervisor definition.
• Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Quality Control Board
• Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record
