The Department:
The Purchasing Division resides in the City's Finance Department and maintains a "centralized purchasing system" that is responsible for all purchasing and contracting activity for supplies, materials, and equipment as well as general and professional services. The Division also operates a Central Warehouse, with over 3,000 inventory items primarily to support the City's utility departments (Silicon Valley Power and the Water and Sewer Departments). The Division is also responsible for the disposition of surplus property and the City mailroom.
The Division will soon expand its warehouse operations with the opening of a second warehouse to support Silicon Valley Power’s infrastructure projects. This recruitment is to fill the Chief Storekeeper position that will manage operations at the current central warehouse, as the incumbent Chief Storekeeper will be transitioning over to the new warehouse.
The Position:
The Chief Storekeeper is a classified position responsible for overseeing day-to-day warehouse operations, including:
- Oversee a wide variety of materials, supplies, and related equipment
- Receiving, storing, and issuing supplies, tools, and equipment
- Ensuring accurate inventory tracking and efficient material handling
- Providing direction to departments for orders of materials
- Supervising a team consisting of two Material Handlers and one Senior Materials Handler in the efficient requisition and issue of materials and supplies
- Obtaining quotes, preparing requisitions, and entering purchase orders in PeopleSoft in accordance with the City’s purchasing policies and guidelines.
The ideal candidate will have strong supervisory, communication, and organizational skills to ensure efficient, consistent, and service-oriented warehouse operations.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,602.20 - $141,461.52. This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED
• Three (3) years of experience in storekeeping, warehousing or inventory control, at least one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory or lead capacity
Desirable Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Finance or related field is highly desirable
LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• May be required to work additional shifts, weekends, or unusual hours in the normal performance of duties to support emergency situations
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

Supervises Senior Materials Handler, Materials Handler, Purchasing Clerk, Purchasing Utility Worker, and other personnel as assigned.
