The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of Part-Time Librarian I in Adult Services with energetic and highly motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with the public in a fast-paced full-service library environment. Key responsibilities include creating new and innovative programs for the public, selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection, assisting community members with their information needs, and expanding the Library's community engagement and outreach activities. The Adult Services Librarian works under the direction of the Supervising Librarian and other management staff in a team-oriented and forward-thinking environment. The position requires a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.

The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future Librarian I – Part-Time – Adult Services vacancies at the Sunnyvale Main Library and the Lakewood Branch Library, expected to open in 2026.

Under general supervision, performs a full range of professional library duties in support of assigned functions; and performs other duties as required.

A Master's degree in Library and Information Science or similar field of study from an American Library Association accredited program.

Salary:  $42.41 - $59.54 Hourly

The Environmental Services Department (ESD) is a national leader in pollution prevention, watershed protection, utility services, and climate action. Position Duties:

Salary Range

The Assistant Director salary range is currently $178, 713.34 - $288, 700.62. Placement within this range will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the individual selected. This salary includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The salary is supplemented by an attractive benefits package. 

The Position

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Environmental Services Department (ESD), overseeing a budget of approximately $550 million and seven direct reports. This executive leader provides strategic and operational direction across a broad and complex portfolio, including Integrated Waste Management, Watershed Protection, Water Resources, Wastewater Management,  Regulatory Affairs and Purified Water, Utility Financial and Business Operations, and Communications. In partnership with Deputy Directors, department leaders, and citywide stakeholders, the Assistant Director drives alignment with City priorities while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness. Key responsibilities include leading utility rate setting, guiding long-range capital and infrastructure planning, and supporting major initiatives such as homelessness response and environmental restoration. The Assistant Director also plays a critical role in supporting the Director by overseeing the preparation of City Council presentations and tracking high-impact departmental initiatives. Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration, engineering, environmental sciences, or related field.

• Experience: Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in business management and/or administration, operations, or maintenance is required.

• Experience managing a work unit equivalent to a major division within a public agency is preferred.

HOUSING OFFICER

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Housing Officer to oversee the Housing Division in the Community Development Department, responsible for the City's affordable housing programs, human services funding, federal grants and homeless services. The ideal candidate will be a passionate affordable housing professional known for being creative and solution-oriented and will be well-versed in state and federal housing legislation and familiar with the unique challenges presented by California's housing market. This position manages the City's varied federal, state and local housing programs and projects and is responsible for managing the technical, fiscal and policy aspects of complex projects and programs. This position serves as liaison to the Housing and Human Services Commission which advises the City Council on funding and policy related to affordable housing and human services. The Housing Officer needs to work collaboratively with the Director, the other two program managers, the Housing Division staff, and many directors and program managers in other City Departments. THE DEPARTMENTS & DIVISIONS
 The Utilities Department is a newly formed department focused on delivering exceptional water and wastewater services. The Utilities Department manages a combined budget of approximately $30.9 million for FY25, with $16.4 million allocated to sewer services and $14.5 million to water services. The Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater will oversee one direct report and, working alongside the third-party contractor for the treatment plan, will serve as the technical lead for complex CIP projects, regulatory reporting, consultant oversight, and cross-agency collaboration. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Utilities Business Manager:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in business, public administration, accounting, or other similar field of study. Master’s degree is desirable.
• Experience: 4+ years professional finance or budget experience, including 1 year supervisory.

Utilities Operations Manager:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, environmental sciences, public administration, or a related field of study.
• Experience: 3-7+ years of relevant utilities operations and supervisory experience.
• Alternative Minimum Qualifying Education/Experience:  Possess at least 60 semester college units from an accredited college or university (related coursework preferred); and possess and maintain a CA Drinking Water Distribution Grade D5 certification issued by the State of CA Water Resources Control Board.

Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Sanitary or Environmental Engineering.
• Experience: 5+ years of professional sanitary, civil, or environmental engineering experience. Significant experience in wastewater engineering and project management is needed.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

• Senior Environmental Engineer - Wastewater: Must possess a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California. If an applicant possesses all of the minimum qualifications, except registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, the applicant may (at city’s sole discretion) be allowed up to one (1) year to obtain registration as a condition of employment.
• Utilities Operations Manager: Must possess a California Drinking Water Distribution Grade D2 certification (or obtain within 12 months of hire), and obtain CWEA Collection System Maintenance Grade I and Water Treatment Grade T1 certifications within the same timeframe.

 

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Utilities Business Manager Annual Salary: $128,385 - $176,334 DOE/DOQ
Utilities Operations Manager Annual Salary: $134,803 - $185,164 DOE/DOQ
Senior Environmental Engineer Annual Salary: $134,803 – 185,164 DOE/DOQ

Initial placement in the salary range is typically within the first half of the range; however, in certain circumstances (i.e. an experienced lateral candidate) placement at or above the midpoint may be considered. The last 3% of the salary range requires five year of City of Gilroy service and strong work performance – see MOU for specific requirements.
 

PLUS, all positions will receive a benefits package that includes: 

Comprehensive Benefits Package:

• Work Schedule: 9/80 work schedules available (every other Friday off); work is on-site.
• Retirement: CalPERS 2.5% @ 55 for Classic members; 2% @ 62 for PEPRA members. The City of Gilroy does not participate in social security, only Medicare.
