The Position:

Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is seeking dynamic, engaging and qualified engineers for several vacant Electric Utility Engineer positions in various divisions.

 

For the SVP Fiber Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with SVP’s fiber network. This individual will assist with engineering design, engineering pole loading analysis software, site surveys, material selection and estimates.   

 

For SVP Operations Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with communication and electrical power engineering. This individual will assist with the programming of industrial multiplexer networks. The individual should have a strong interest in industrial high-speed data networking.

 

For SVP Engineering and CIP projects, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with electrical power engineering, substation design and Transmission and distribution systems. The individual may manage or will assist in managing Capital improvement Projects (CIP) to support growth of the electric utility. The candidates should have strong background and interest in electric systems.

 

For the Customer Development and Project Management Division, this position will assist in monitoring the operation of power generation equipment to ensure that it operates within the desired specifications, conducting routine inspections and maintenance of plant equipment to prevent failures and ensure maximum efficiency, Implementing upgrades and modifications to existing systems to improve performance and reduce environmental impact, coordinating with other technical staff and management to discuss and strategize plant operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to safety and environmental protection, preparing reports on plant operations, outage planning, and other performance metrics necessary for proper management and planning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with:

a) Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and two (2) years experience doing electric utility engineering work, or

 

b)  Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and three (3) years experience doing electric utility engineering work and experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft office (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Mathlab)

 

Acceptable Substitution:

• A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of experience

 

• An Engineer-in-Training Certification with ten (10) years of experience in electric utility engineering work can be substituted for the degree in engineering and the required experience indicated above

 

License/Certifications:

Possession of an appropriate, valid Class C California driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

• Registration as an Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineer in the State of California
• Experience using ESRI based Geographic Information System (GIS)
• Experience using system modeling and load flow software; Aspen one-liner software, GE PSLF, and DEW ISM

 

Special Conditions:

May work unusual hours in emergency situations, or while acting as supervisor, or at other than the regular job site.

The City of Santa Clara is recruiting for the Electric Utility Chief Operating Officer for its Electric Utility, Silicon Valley Power (SVP).  Reporting to the Chief Electric Utility Officer (CEUO), the Electric Utility Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a senior management position in the City's unclassified service responsible for the oversight and direction for the fiscal, administrative, and managerial operations of the utility. The COO has supervisory and support responsibilities for the utility's divisions: Utility Operations, Customer Development and Project Management, Resource Planning and Customer Engagement, and Business Services. The COO will help guide SVP through the extraordinary period of growth related by doubling the existing capacity of the electrical system to meet new customer demands over the next 10 years. In addition to the expansion, the COO will work to ensure new renewable resources are added to meet the City's and State’s climate goals. The COO is responsible for forecasting service requirements and for planning, organizing and directing assigned resources of the electric utility division in order to meet those requirements. This includes developing and administering the department operations and capital improvement budgets. • Prepare reports and maintain required purchasing records, preparing documentation as needed for Valley Water.

• First Aid Card & CPR Certificate

• Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for, and who has applied for, citizenship at least one year prior to application for employment. Application for citizenship shall not have been denied.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND POLYGRAPH TEST
An intensive background investigation will be conducted on each final candidate in accordance with the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission Peace Officer Background Investigations Guidelines. Candidates will also be required to successfully pass a polygraph test administered by a licensed polygrapher, a psychological exam given by a City-selected psychologist and a medical exam by a City physician (to include a stress test EKG and general physical examination). The results of the psychological exam are valid for one year. Services offered to families are designed to help them become or remain self-sufficient.

The Position

The City of Fremont’s Human Services Department is currently looking for temporary employees to work evening shifts, from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. From December 1st through April 30th, 2024, the City of Fremont will operate the Winter Relief Program to provide a safe and welcoming  environment  for  individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Participants will  have  access  to  shelter  rooms  in  local hotels and an opportunity to access additional services. Shelter monitors  will  work  under  the direction of a Human Service Specialist II.

This position will require up to 20 hours of work per week.

Examples of Duties

• This position is responsible for maintaining the health and safety of homeless individuals and families who are living on the streets or in their cars and need emergency shelter from cold weather and rain.
• Welcome all new program participants and work compassionately with those who may have difficulty engaging with service providers.
• Effectively resolve conflicts among participants and de‐escalate potentially violent situations.
• Maintain a friendly, safe, and supportive environment by ensuring participant adherence to program rules, especially related to behaviors that may be unsafe.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies. As necessary, notify public safety personnel. Pick up meals and personal supplies and facilitate distribution to program participants. Maintain a collaborative working relationship with hotel staff.
• Maintain accurate records including a daily sign‐in sheet.
• Daily use of email to submit detailed reports regarding participant attendance, supply needs, on-site incidents including any 911 utilization and/or emergency responder activity, and information about clients who may need additional medical or behavioral follow-up.
• Monitor and document room condition to ensure rooms are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.

Overview:
The Senior Management Analyst in Valley Water's Purchasing and Contracts Unit is responsible for leading the procurement of information technology (IT) goods, services, and consultants. This role ensures compliance with organizational policies and industry best practices for the complete procurement process—from solicitation to contract administration—for IT-related acquisitions. The position entails analyzing bids, conducting market analysis, negotiating vendors, negotiating contracts, and providing strategic recommendations to maximize value. Additionally, this position acts as a key analyst on IT procurement strategies and leads complex IT procurement projects, ensuring alignment with Valley Water's goals.

Purchasing & Consultant Contracts Services Unit (Position Code 476)

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period (one year). Internal candidates will follow existing teleworking schedule.
