THE POSITION

To monitor City facilities during programs and rentals; to open and close facilities; to set up and take down equipment; to provide information and assistance to the public in person and on the phone; to perform general administrative tasks when assigned; to perform certain custodial duties; to ensure user compliance with policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to facility use; and to perform other duties as assigned. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill current temporary/part-time positions.

Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month

AND 960 hours per fiscal year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following are typical illustrations of duties encompassed by the job class, not an all-inclusive or limiting list:

Follow established facility use guidelines, policies, and procedures.  Open and close facilities.  Meet, greet, and monitor facility users.  Act as liaison between facility users and City staff.  Patrol facilities as needed.  Perform facility check-in and check-out as needed.  Provide information and assistance in person and over the phone.  Check availability of facilities upon request by customers.  Assist patrons with enrolling in City recreation programs.  Ensuring users are in compliance with facility rules.  Assist maintenance staff with room setups.  Perform certain custodial duties.  Maintain reports as necessary, like incident reports or vandalism reports.  Use Microsoft Office tools for communication and assignments.  Provide nightly feedback to Supervisor of facility activity.  Perform related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Age Requirement:  At least 18 years of age

Education:  Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent

Experience:  At least one (1) year of experience in resource management, parks & recreation, or other relevant customer service positions.

License and Certificates:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required upon hire.

SALARY

$19.25 - $20.25 per hour (based on years of experience)

BENEFITS

All of these positions are temporary/part time. Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours in a Fiscal Year.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  Except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.

The Procurement Specialist reports to the Manager, Materials and Inventory Controls and is responsible for the acquisition of bus parts, equipment, supplies, and maintenance services for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans).

Essential Functions & Duties:

Examples of Essential Functions:

• Receive requisitions and process the purchasing of bus parts, equipment, supplies, and maintenance services.
• Assist with locating or determining appropriate bus part numbers, descriptions, catalogs and sources for items.
• Liaison between vendors and Stores staff to resolve purchasing issues.
• Work with finance and maintenance department staff to maintain vendor relationships and ensure contract compliance including timely payment of invoices.
• Track expenditures throughout the year. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for management.
• Develop business relationships with vendors and potential suppliers ensuring on time delivery of products and the highest possible customer satisfaction to the maintenance department.

• Prepare request for bid packages for requisitions.
• Identifies vendors, verify prices of offerings and parts, and negotiate delivery times.
• Create and maintain purchasing files.
• Represent SamTrans to vendors, always keeping the best interests of SamTrans at the forefront of priorities. 
• Maintain and forge new relationships with vendors, suppliers, and potentially alternative sources of inventory. 
• Assist in the process for the disposition of surplus inventory.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
• Five (5) years of full-time professional experience buying bus parts, automotive (light or heavy- duty) parts, or machine tool parts.

Preferred Qualifications:

The Public Services Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is alternatively staffed with Public Services Maintenance Worker II and incumbents may advance to the higher-level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Public Services Maintenance Worker II

The Public Services Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Public Services Maintenance Worker in that the latter performance the more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Public Services Maintenance Worker I

Receives general supervision from a Public Services Supervisor. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision.

Public Services Maintenance Worker II

Receives general supervision from a Public Services Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in streets, water, sewers, refuse collection, parks and buildings.
• Streets: Breaks, removes, crack seals, hydropatches, and repairs surfaces; digs, shovels, hauls, loads and unloads materials; operates jack hammers, tampers, pavement breakers and other hand and power tools; rolls and irons asphalt; operates trucks, backhoes, rollers, pavers, street sweepers and other construction vehicles and equipment; assists in the installation and maintenance of City signs, road markings, striping and delineators; paints street lines and crosswalks; performs concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter and ramp installation and repair; installs, maintains and repairs street lights; installs shoring and trench plates; monitors underground service alert (USA’s) and marks when necessary; conducts street leaf pickup; mows roadsides.
• Water Distribution and Drainage: Constructs, maintains and repairs storm conduits, curbs, gutters and drainage facilities; installs, repairs and maintains water mains and lines; conducts maintenance at well sites; monitors pump stations; operates jack hammers and other tools and equipment; inspects tools and equipment for safety and mechanical defects; installs and repairs water service connections, meters and boxes; performs monthly meter reads; repairs, installs and tests hydrants; monitors USA’s and marks when necessary; operates trucks and other construction vehicles and equipment; locates and repairs leaks in water lines; cleans storm drains, flood control facilities and inlets; operates sewer camera and hydrovac.

• Solid Waste: Operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; drives to landfill site when vehicle is full and unloads material; evaluates and updates assigned routes; cleans, maintains and inspects assigned vehicles; maintains daily logs.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.

The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

THE POSITIONS

Under direct supervision, the Public Service Assistant II will perform litter/trash pick-up, barbeque maintenance, leaf/debris pick-up, and miscellaneous park duties in Central Park and other community parks.  The Public Service Assistant II will also perform related duties as assigned.
 
WORK SCHEDULE

The positions work up to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week and may be required to work a regular shift that includes evening and weekend hours. These temporary assignments are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for the position of Refuse Truck Driver II in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works department. Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties in the Solid Waste division, including maintenance, operating collection vehicles and refuse equipment operation. This job classification is represented by the Classified, Local 39 employee group; the probation period is 12 months.

Open positions may be filled as regular/full-time or seasonal/part-time.  Seasonal positions are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year and are unbenefited, and may become regular/full-time positions, dependent upon the future needs of the department.
