The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter/Engineers who are licensed paramedics. Under direction of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter/Engineer will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighter/Engineers also provide Advanced Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Training Guidelines:
A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Two years (2) of full-time firefighting service.
2. Possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter I certificate is required.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
4. Must have a valid Paramedic License from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and will need to obtain San Mateo County Paramedic accreditation prior to completing probationary period.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or valid Paramedic license.
2. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certificate.  CPAT must be valid and completed within the last 12 months.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball, or basketball official. On game days, youth referees will be partnered with experienced officials that will provide training and mentorship. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm.

Official’s shirt, whistle, and training resources are provided. All training is provided by the Silicon Valley Sports Officials Association. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction.

The Manager, Track & Structures reports to the Deputy Director of Infrastructure Engineering and is responsible for overseeing railroad track and structures engineering support for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain)

Essential Functions & Duties:

• Acts as agency lead on matters related to track and structures.
• Oversee the track and structures engineering tasks for design/construction of Caltrain Capital and SOGR projects and provide technical support for planning on grade separation projects.
• Ensure the capital and maintenance projects comply with the contract agreement and implement the approved design for compliance with JPB standards and specifications. 
• Lead the advanced technical reviews of projects to assess constructability, examine design details, perform quantity audit, and recommend construction sequencing.
• Establish effective relationships and liaise with Caltrain operation contractors, consultants, internal departments, and other agencies (CPUC, FRA, UPRR, etc.) on railroad track and structures related to influence design and project development.
• Supervise staff.  Hire, mentor and take appropriate corrective and/or disciplinary action.  Ensure EEO policies and procedures are followed. Participate in selection of staff. Coordinate staff training and professional development. Establish performance objectives. Monitor and evaluate employee performance.

Examples of Essential Duties: 

• Plan, develop and implement the group’s work plan, budget, goals, and objectives to be consistent with the Engineering Department’s goals.
• Manage the design review of project documentation such as drawings, basis of design, specifications, technical reports, and calculations for compliance with Caltrain Standards and for cost effectiveness of the design. 
• Lead development of potential solutions to the design/construction team and presents for design optimization, risk management challenges, and constructability improvements.
• Assist with Maintenance Department to develop the annual and long-term railroad track engineering and maintenance plans, coordinate these plans with capital projects and support to implement the plans.
• Review and provide technical input for capital and maintenance projects for compliance and cost effectiveness of the design.
• Perform QA reviews of RFIs and submittals as well as participate in change order review and final inspections to construction. 
• Ensure track and structures comply with all return-to-service requirements following all construction activities.
• Review and evaluate project specific designs and provide technical recommendations to design variance approval process.
• Responsible for Caltrain Bridge Management Program.
• Responsible for updates to Caltrain Engineering Standards.
• Train, motivate and monitor staff activities, provide direction, and to identify and resolve the problems.
• Provide 24/7 on-call construction and maintenance support.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm.  Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.

The Department

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program.

• Salary:  $6,455 to $8,321 per month. Effective 7/1/2025, 3.5% COLA ($6,681 to $8,612/month).
• Medical Benefits: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. In lieu of medical coverage, the City will contribute $400 (employee only coverage) or $500 (employee + 1 coverage) or $600 (family coverage) into a MissionSquare 457 deferred compensation plan.

Please complete an application and supplemental questionnaire online at www.calopps.org. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a City employment application.  Typing certification of 40 wpm net (5 minute test taken within the last 12 months) is required.  Certificates will only be accepted from a recognized business, adult school, or employment agency. Online typing test results will not be accepted. Applications received without a valid typing certificate, or not meeting the minimum words per minute (40 wpm net) will not be considered and applicants will not be contacted to correct the deficiency. Lateral applicants from a POST certified agency are not required to submit a typing certificate.

CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT:  Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.  You must ensure complete submission of employment application and typing certificate as recruitment may close at any time. 

Experienced & Lateral Applicants: Priority will be given to qualified lateral and experienced applicants. The most qualified applicants based on background and experience as evidenced by their application, will be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%.  To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

Entry-level applicants:   Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications may be invited to take an online Dispatcher test and will be notified by email of their scheduled testing date.  The most qualified applicants based on background and experience as evidenced by their application, and those with a passing score on the online test, may be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%.  To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, including a drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.
