ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general direction of the Finance Officer, this position performs professional and technical work of a confidential nature in the areas of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, and public employee retirement (CalPERS) reporting. This position assists with the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the District, including maintenance of accounting and payroll records, and other tasks as assigned. 

TYPICAL DUTIES

• Manage, prepare, process and maintain records for bi-weekly payroll; prepare quarterly and annual tax reports and returns; confirm compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local law, rules, and regulations.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Public Works Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Operates hand and power tools, light and heavy construction equipment and specialized wastewater equipment. Handles and applies chemicals. Maintains, operates, inspects, repairs and installs water distribution system facilities including piping, storage tanks, meters, hydrants, valves, pressure reducing stations, pumping stations, pumps, controls, measuring devices, cathodic protection systems, communication systems, and related appurtenances.

Education and Training Guidelines:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance or construction; completion of high school or the equivalent. 

Experience: One year of experience in general maintenance or construction.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.

MAINTENANCE WORKER (Full time)

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Maintenance Worker I:  This is the entry level class in the maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance tasks. Although trucks and other motorized equipment may be operated by a Maintenance Worker I, the equipment is used on a training basis or for tasks which are repetitious in nature. Under this training concept, positions assigned to the class of Maintenance Worker II which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the Maintenance Worker I level, with the understanding that reassignment to the Maintenance Worker II class may be expected following successful job performance and personal development.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level in the maintenance worker series. Positions assigned to this class are expected to perform semi‑skilled and skilled public works maintenance activities and to operate light and moderately heavy power‑driven equipment on a continuing basis. All positions allocated to this class require that an incumbent be able to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative to fulfill assigned tasks. Maintenance Workers II may also be expected to assist in the supervision and training of less experienced personnel.

Under close supervision, prepares and provides institutional meals following federal and state nutritional guidelines, and performs other duties as assigned.  Yuba County staffs the Cook classification at the County Jail division in the Sheriff’s department  This position performs a full range of tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of meals to juvenile detainees and adult inmates.  The incumbent ensures that properly prepared nutritional meals are produced in a large volume, institutional setting.  Responsibilities also include overseeing detainees and/or inmates and institution workers assisting with food preparation. 

For successful performance, the incumbent would be required to have knowledge of principles, methods and equipment used in high volume meal preparation in an institutional setting; basic food groups and nutritional values; safe work practices related to food preparation, storage and service; basic business arithmetic; and basic inventory and record keeping principles and practices. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff.   The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated.  The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker I is distinguished from Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II in that the Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II level requires a higher level of certification and is able to perform a broader range of duties more independently.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

• Maintains and repairs pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical, and exercise and lubricate machinery within the plant; records and maintains accurate maintenance records in a daily log book;

• Completes monthly work orders and enters information regarding maintenance tasks into the system; records SCADA; records hours on equipment and meters; makes entries into the end of the month report and prints work order summary;

• Performs cleanup of the plant, removing trash, washing down decks, and clearing leaves and branches from storm drains; cleans tools and makes sure equipment is in proper locations and power tools are in safe working condition;
• Changes oil and filters on various pumps and compressors in the plant; maintains safety inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and ladders in the plant;
• Removes and replaces packing from various pumps in the plant; installs new rings of packing with new Lantern rings if damaged; applies grease to the new set of packing for proper lubrication; removes corrosion or debris from packing gland before reinstalling;
• Evaluates pump performance and flow rate to determine if pump has excessive buildup of rags that is affecting its performance and efficiency; shuts down pumps to remove rags from impeller and clears any obstructions;
• Replaces damaged parts/fittings on leaking chemical feed pumps; makes alterations to existing supply tubing or fittings, replacing clamps or O-rings, or removing debris caught in the check valves; inspects, tests, calibrates, adjusts, cleans, and paints equipment in the water pollution control plant; and
• Performs related duties as assigned.

 

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS

Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license, obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License, and a satisfactory driving record. CWEA Certification as a Grade I Mechanical Technologist.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) team of the Human Services Agency (HSA) of San Mateo County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II. This current vacancy is a permanent position assigned in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter program. The position is a shared assignment and will be scheduled weekly to work in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter. Under supervision, Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II will perform a variety of support activities and supervise the operation of Vocational Rehabilitation Services’ Catering Connection, and WorkCenter. In addition, this position is responsible for: Instructing, training and supervising the work of support staff and individuals with emotional and physical disabilities or others with barriers to employment by observing, evaluating and reporting on progress, attendance and employment potential of clients and preparing written evaluations.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
 

Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I: Experience working with staff involved in product or service delivery operation.

 

Rehabilitation Production Supervisor II: Two years of experience in an industrial production operation or rehabilitation WorkCenter including a supervisory assignment.

Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term, and SEIU or AFSCME represented extra help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.. Responses to the supplemental questions must be submitted in addition to our regular employment application form.

The examination will consist of an interview (weight: 100%), which may include the evaluation of a brief written and/or performance exercise given immediately preceding the interview. Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or a screening committee may select those applicants whose education and/or experience appear to best meet the needs of the position. Because of the screening process, not all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.
