Job Description

Under the supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor I, the Pile Worker performs a variety of manual work in the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures by removing and replacing decayed and/or damaged caps, stringers, and decking; pulling, driving, framing, and bolting piles; burning old bolts; and repairing docks. Inspects piling underwater, wraps damaged piles and identifies severely damaged piles for replacement. Performs underwater burning, welding, and rigging for underwater projects.

For positions that require diving ability, incumbent must hold a current commercial diving certification. Diving ability includes performing underwater diving work including the ability to inspect underwater piles, wrap damaged piles, cut piles, prep and grout concrete piles, install anodes, designate severely damaged piles for replacement, perform underwater burning, welding, and rigging and familiarity with CAL OSHA regulations related to diving.

The essential duties of the 9330 Pile Worker include but are not limited to:

• Placing, driving, and capping piles.
• Placing stringers, sawing, and laying decking.
• Tearing out decayed and damaged decking, stringers, caps, and pilings.
•  Boring holes and framing timbers.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver and/or truck crane.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver by setting up, tearing down, and resetting rigging.
• Making minor repairs to piledriver machinery and equipment.
• Fabricating rigging, both wire rope or synthetic line such as block and tackles, slings, chokers, pennants, and related gear.
• Building, maintaining and using floats, pontoons, or work boats in the maintenance and repair of piers and docks.
• Building and maintaining floats, pontoons, workboats, and rafts.
• Loading and/or unloading piles, timbers, or debris to or from trucks or barges.
• Assisting the dive crew by sending down equipment and tools.
• Using international code of hand signals to signal instructions to the Piledriver Engine Operator.
• Using and maintaining pneumatic and portable gas tools.
• Operating forklifts, vehicles, and boats
• Using and maintaining a wide variety of pneumatic and portable gas tools such as drills, sanders, wrenches, saws, forklifts, torches, boring machines, and other related tools.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Some positions require diving ability - for positions that perform underwater diving, candidates are required to pass a medical qualification examination to dive and for the use of a respirator. Sustained physical effort, frequently underwater and under adverse weather conditions such as in rain, rough water, cold temperatures (water and air) and confined spaces; moving large heavy timbers; operating a skiff; and driving Port vehicles; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and support dive gear and apparatus from 100 to 150 pounds.  

Qualifications

Experience

Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience as a pile worker.

For diving positions only: One (1) year of commercial construction diver experience in addition to the experience described above for a total of five (5) years of experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

For diving positions only: Possession of a current certification as a commercial diver by an Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE) accredited dive school.

Desirable Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with wood, steel and concrete pier construction and marine pile driving operations.
• Experience working on a barge crane conducting pile driving operations.
• Experience maintaining floating assets and marina floats.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card

This position requires that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the Port’s Maritime Transportation System (MTS).  An application for a TWIC card may be submitted after employment has commenced.  Employment in this position requires that the incumbent undergo a criminal history check, immigration check and terrorist threat assessment, including FBI fingerprints, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance.  

The incumbent must submit an application for, successfully acquire and maintain a TWIC card. The San José Fire Department is looking to fill a Senior Geographic Systems Specialist position within the BAS/Fire IT division. This role will manage mapping projects and, when applicable, application development activities to support the mapping function. Under the direction of the Department Information Technology Manager, the key duties and responsibilities of this position include:
 

• Oversee GIS data management efforts, including Fire-specific layers, ensuring the quality and timely input of the data. This involves performing quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) and assisting with hands-on data management to minimize backlogs.
• Coordinate with various departments and the Enterprise GIS team on Fire data conversion and consolidation efforts, contributing to the Enterprise GIS data repository.

Temporary Maintenance Worker – Parks & Roadsides 

Salary: $20.00/hour

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position. 
• Flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week, which may include weekend work; not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year. The schedule for this position would be Friday through Monday. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

General supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. May exercise supervision of Work Alternative Program participants as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES 

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:  

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play.

QUALIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

Job Description

This position performs preventive, routine and emergency maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy and light industrial and marine equipment, related systems and components. The incumbent will operate precision equipment and respond to trouble calls associated with the Port's ferry terminal systems, boats, sewer pumps and other Port related equipment. Under the administrative direction of the Ports Finance and Administration Division, the Information Systems (IS) Director plans, directs, and coordinates information system operations and activities for the Port of San Francisco. This includes overseeing system design, development, and implementation, as well as coordinating data and information systems across departments. The IS Director is responsible for the operation and maintenance of these systems.

The Port is in the process of replacing several business-critical systems in the next five years, including real estate and work order management systems.  The IS Director will lead these efforts, requiring the creation of a systems strategic plan that aligns different systems with the Port’s primary business needs while integrating with citywide financial and payroll systems.  This plan will involve collaborating with business divisions to identify and prioritize system requirements, such as vacancy, profit and loss, and common area expense allocation reports for the real estate portfolio, as well as berthing management systems for various visiting ships and boats.

The IS Director will also identify necessary business division process changes and establish short- and long-term deliverables. This position oversees two distinct functions: an applications group responsible for implementing and maintaining technology applications tailored to the Port’s needs, and an infrastructure group that ensures a stable and secure environment for desktop and mobile devices.

The Ideal candidate will have extensive business process knowledge in the Transit Industry and functional experience in SAP Enterprise Asset Management/Plant Management/Material Management/Procurement modules. The candidate will also be involved in a new/upgraded ERP implementation project, and he/she needs to be a quick learner and be able to adapt to changing priorities with ease.
 

Definition

Under direction, the Senior Business Systems Analyst leads and participates in the work of staff in performing applications support in designing, implementing, and maintaining VTA applications and systems including VTA's Enterprise Resource Planning system, Electronic Documents Management System, and other business systems.

 

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the advanced journey-level in the Business Systems Analyst series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes in this series by the level of responsibility assumed, in-depth knowledge about the business area, and complexity of the duties assigned. The Senior Business Systems Analyst performs project lead functions including assigning work, delegating assignments, and reviewing the work of others.

Incumbents at this level perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes in this series including serving as project lead over staff responsible for designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting computer applications, or modules of the application, and systems. Incumbents at this level are fully trained in all procedures related to their assigned area of responsibility. This classification implements solutions related to applications used in VTA's functional areas with a strong emphasis on process and flow design, custom functionality, and maintaining systems.

Essential Job Functions

Typical Tasks
 

• Leads and participates in the work of staff in managing projects, developing and enhancing system applications for an assigned division;
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships, and works extensively with VTA Management, VTA Business Process Owners, and system Super Users in developing and  enhancing information systems solutions;
• Trains customers, staff, and others as needed in a formal setting, in a group, or one-on-one;
• Administers a variety of actions to one or more modules of the Enterprise Resource Planning system (SAP), or Electronic Documents Management System (EDMS), or construction applications (such as Contract Manager, P6, Projectwise, Citicube, etc.) or other VTA applications or Reporting Services;
• Reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures, and identifies and resolves problems;
• Defines customer business needs, manages client expectations, and identifies alternative approaches and cost-benefits of automating of customer functions to assist in meeting the client's overall business goals;
• When assigned to a project, develops the scope of work for new or upgrade solutions and works with Contracts and Materials Management (CAMM) department during the Request for Proposal (RFP) and contracting phases of the process;
• Consults with customers to present proposals to senior management and assists in developing capital packages;
• Consults and facilitates with department representatives to solicit departmental technology needs and requirements as well as resolving problems with applications;
• Serves as a single point of contact for the user community in the assigned division, and assumes responsibility for the delivery of technology services;
• Maintains technical and functional competency in the applications utilized by the assigned department;
• Reviews, analyzes and approves program designs, operational characteristics, user interfaces, reporting systems and data conversion methods;
• Reduces design projects into component analytical tasks;
• Develops detailed workflow, system, training, and process requirements;
• Prepares final systems design and documentation and user documentation necessary for programming;
• Oversees the installation and updates of application packages, data base development tools, and other related elements;
• Defines and manages project scope, deliverables, schedules, cost estimates, and task lists;
• Performs development, review, and selection tasks related to Requests for Proposals and Requests for Qualifications;
• Communicates project status, resolving project issues, problems, and changes;
• Manages and tracks projects from initiation to successful completion;
• Establishes and maintains relationships at all levels of the assigned organization;
• Manages projects using VTA personnel, consultants, and vendors, as needed;
• Communicates with vendors of application software;
• May be required to monitors project expenditures, recommending adjustments as necessary;
• Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards

Sufficient training, education and experience to demonstrate possession of the required technical and project management knowledge, skills and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in information systems, computer science or related field and four (4) years of responsible experience developing, designing, and/or maintaining major components of a comprehensive information system including evaluation, analysis and input to the software modules of an Enterprise Resource Planning System or other application system. (Additional applicable experience with applications and systems support, design, and maintenance substitutes for college on a year for year basis.) Incumbents must demonstrate substantial experience in an SAP environment, and/or Electronic Documents Management System, and/or Operations system (such as Trapeze, BDT, ACS) or Construction and CMP solutions.

A VTA employee designated as a "Business Process Owner" and/or "Super User" with four (4) years of experience in that capacity, in addition to performing and leading others in system upgrades and demonstrated technical coursework in SAP or systems used at VTA, meets the minimum qualifications for this classification. Experience with transit/transportation-related applications is desirable.

MAINTENANCE WORKER (Full time)

Working in the Public Works Department, the Maintenance Worker I/II will perform a variety of unskilled, semiskilled and skilled light and heavy duty construction, maintenance and repair work involving public works, sewer and drainage systems, buildings, parking meters, and other facilities.

The position will be filled as a Maintenance Worker I/II based on the experience and qualifications of the candidate.

SALARY RANGE:
Maintenance Worker I/II – $3,350.50 to $4,485.52 per month (wages effective 7/1/2024 per MOU).

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Maintenance Worker I:  This is the entry level class in the maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance tasks. Although trucks and other motorized equipment may be operated by a Maintenance Worker I, the equipment is used on a training basis or for tasks which are repetitious in nature. Under this training concept, positions assigned to the class of Maintenance Worker II which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the Maintenance Worker I level, with the understanding that reassignment to the Maintenance Worker II class may be expected following successful job performance and personal development.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level in the maintenance worker series. Positions assigned to this class are expected to perform semi‑skilled and skilled public works maintenance activities and to operate light and moderately heavy power‑driven equipment on a continuing basis. All positions allocated to this class require that an incumbent be able to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative to fulfill assigned tasks. Maintenance Workers II may also be expected to assist in the supervision and training of less experienced personnel.
