The Position

The Housing Authority of the County of San Mateo seeks a collaborative, innovative problem solver, experienced with housing authority operations for the position of Executive Director to provide exceptional leadership at a high-performing agency.

With general direction from the Department of Housing Director and Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, the Executive Director organizes, coordinates, and directs through management staff all Housing Authority functions and activities; provides policy guidance and strategic direction regarding housing issues; fosters cooperative working relationships with the Board, HACSM staff, the public and other agencies; and performs related work as assigned. This position has overall responsibility for department administration, policy development, financial, operational and planning functions, and other activities of the Housing Authority. The incumbent is responsible for accomplishing all HACSM goals and objectives in an effective, efficient, and equitable manner.

Example of Duties

• Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct through subordinate staff, the work of the Housing Authority.
• Establish organizational priorities; schedule and monitor the quality and timeliness of the work performed.
• Work closely with and advise the DOH Director, the Board of Commissioners, Housing Authority staff, the public and other agencies to implement a variety of efficient and effective housing programs
• Ensure compliance with local-, state-, and federally mandated standards.
• Provide ongoing vision for how HACSM and its programs integrate with the County of San Mateo.
• Direct the preparation of agenda items for the Board of Commissioners.
• Interpret, analyze and defend HACSM policies, procedures and programs.
• Coordinate the preparation and presentation of a wide variety of reports to the Board, the public and other agencies.
• Direct the development and implementation of management systems, procedures and the application of standards for program evaluation on an Authority-wide basis.
• Direct the creation and administration of the comprehensive annual budget for Housing Authority operations.
• Maintain current knowledge of federal, state and local laws and ordinances affecting the Housing Authority.
• Promote racial and social equity within HACSM, its teams and processes, and through the agency’s public-facing programs.
• Provide supervision to the Housing Authority management team and advise the team on federal, state, County and Board policy.
• Foster a positive work environment valuing teamwork, equity, and high-quality work products.
• Represent the Housing Authority before the Board, and in other meetings involving local, regional, state, and federal stakeholders.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Three+ years of managerial experience in a social or community service program, preferably in a housing authority program.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Planner! In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform professional planning work in the Land Use Division of the Planning Department or the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department.

In the Land Use Division, the Associate Planner performs a variety of professional activities in support of the City's planning services. This Division administers zoning regulations, reviews development projects and assists the community in its efforts to plan for the City's physical, cultural, environmental, and socio-economic future. If current planning activities are assigned, work will include data collection, provision of information to the public at the zoning counter, processing development applications, and environmental review. If policy planning activities are assigned, work will include ordinance and plan revisions, data collection and analysis, and other land use studies.

In the Transportation Division, the Associate Planner works on a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives, such as developing, implementing, and updating the City's transportation plans; analyzing transportation and traffic safety data to identify and prioritize projects and policies that will improve public safety; developing Complete Streets projects and supporting the implementation of transportation capital improvement projects; and coordinating with transit providers, primarily AC Transit, on transit projects affecting Berkeley, including service planning and bus stop improvements. Additional duties may include leading grant applications and assisting with grant compliance, procurement of consultants, and consultant and contract management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four year college with major coursework in city, regional, or urban planning or a closely related field and two (2) years of professional planning experience. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

A valid California driver's license is desirable. Must be able to attend evening meetings as required.

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to fill current vacancies and establish an employment list for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher within the Sheriff’s Department.  The incumbent receives 9-1-1 system sheriff, fire, medical emergency and rescue calls; dispatches sheriff, fire and medical personnel following established procedures; maintains communication with officers in the field to ensure safety and provide back-up and information; provides relief coverage for the records unit; and performs related work as assigned. These classifications require shift work and the ability to make decisions and act appropriately in stressful situations. We have exciting internship opportunities available at the City of Millbrae’s Public Works Department.  The Public Works Department is looking to hire two (2) interns for the Engineering Division. This is an open-ended internship without a specific term. The working schedule is to be determined based on business needs and candidate availability, and no more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

The Engineering Division interns would be working on various infrastructure projects, such as streets, sewer, bridge/structural, permitting, and document management.  Interns will assist the engineers by writing reports or conducting field visits to solve construction issues.  Interns would report to the Senior Engineers located at the Corporation Yard at 400 East Millbrae Avenue.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office environment in close proximity to other workers.  Incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in a business office environment.  Physical demands require frequent standing, reaching, leaning, twisting, grasping, lifting and sitting for prolonged periods of time.  Must carry moderately heavy boxes up to 50 pounds and/or utilize a dolly.  Incumbent must be able to drive safely to various City sites.  Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction.  Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and be willing to work an irregular schedule, which might include evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying hours.

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for the position of Refuse Truck Driver II in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works department. Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks in the collection of residential, commercial and industrial solid waste refuse; drive and operate refuse collection vehicles; organize, assign and review the work of others and perform other related duties as required.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Refuse Truck Driver II

This is a journey level class and is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I classification by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff or division programs and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Drives and operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including one or two-person-staffed refuse collection truck, front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; responds to afterhours call-outs if assigned.
• Maintains assigned truck by regular cleaning and washing, including inspecting for mechanical or other operating problems; reports mechanical or related problems for maintenance; may perform minor maintenance as appropriate.
• Operates hydraulic/mechanical controls to load, compress, and dump refuse; collects and disposes of debris on assigned route; transports refuse to/unload at appropriate landfill sites and/or sewage treatment plant.
• Assists with battery sorting, electronic waste collection, bin repair or delivery, cardboard removal, illegal dumping cleanup, and any other related solid waste program or assignment.
• Completes and posts notification tags on containers, bins and dumpsters for unacceptable contents for refuse collection.
• Prepares, maintains and submits records, reports and forms including time records, equipment and maintenance records, and route maps and logs.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of:  Methods, practices and techniques of solid waste and refuse collection and disposal; practices, techniques and materials used in the collection and disposal of solid waste refuse; knowledge of the City street system; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; operating characteristics and safety requirements for operation of trucks, refuse vehicles and other heavy and light equipment; defensive driving; proper lifting procedures; Principles and practices of lead supervision, training, and performance evaluation, including safety practices and related record-keeping; methods and techniques for record keeping; basic principles of mathematics; occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Skill to:  Safe, effective, defensive and attentive driving, along with experience using a variety of solid waste and refuse collection vehicles, equipment, tools and materials. 

Ability to:  Perform solid waste refuse collection and disposal; drive and operate solid waste and refuse collection trucks; respond to issues and concerns from the community; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations; operate a variety of solid waste and refuse collection equipment, vehicles and tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time; work at substantial heights; respond to afterhours call-outs if assigned; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; analyze a complex issue, and develop and implement an appropriate response; develop and coordinate collection route schedules, including identification of non-routine special routes/equipment needs related to special events/projects; inspect trucks for maintenance/replacement recommendations; act as a lead worker and perform advanced journey level solid waste refuse collection work related to area of assignment; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

THE POSITION

Perform professional civil engineering work in the planning, design, technical investigation, and construction of projects in public works, transportation, capital improvements, and structural engineering. An example of duties include:

• Participates in the preparation of plans and specifications for the construction of streets, storm drains, street lighting, traffic signals, buildings and related public works and City building projects; researches project design requirements; performs calculations and prepares estimates of material costs and time considerations.
• Researches publications and industry information sources.
• Develops and revises design and construction standards.
• Participates in the implementation of the City’s traffic and transportation engineering programs; prepares and revises plans and specifications for traffic related projects; prepares special studies and reports and coordinates major projects.
• Investigates field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations.
• Prepares estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified services and structures.
• Administers contracts and may assist with inspection services and project management for construction and maintenance projects.
• Participates in the plan check, review and processing of plans for private developments affecting streets, sewers, drains and related public works facilities and ensures that they meet all City imposed requirements.
• Prepares special engineering studies and reports.
• Coordinates planning, design, and construction activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections, and with outside agencies.
• Attends various staff and regional technical advisory meetings.
• Provides technical and professional assistance/support to other City departments and divisions, Planning Commission, and City Council as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a closely related field;

OR

Possession of a current Engineer-in-Training Certificate, issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, and one (1) year of professional civil engineering experience.

License Requirements:
