Primary responsibilities:

• Performs calculations and technical plan checks of public works and utility projects

• Assists in construction drawing plan review and participates in post-construction inspections in the field
• Participates in the filing and retrieval of engineering maps, documents, and records as requested by the public and City personnel
• Provides exceptional customer service at the public counter, via email, and on the phone
• Prepares permits and work orders for water and wastewater connections and installations, and coordinates work with City field crews
• Responds to inquiries from consultants, contractors, and the public regarding City engineering requirements

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Traffic Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department! In this role you will have the opportunity receive on-the-job training in traffic maintenance. You'll learn to paint and install traffic control markings on pavement as well as design, fabricate, install, repair and maintain traffic warning signs, parking signs and other signs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is: 
Equivalent to graduation from twelfth grade and six months of work experience as a laborer in construction or maintenance work.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds and to perform sustained physical labor.
• Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions and to work with exposure to heavy traffic.
• Must be willing to work overtime and off-hours shifts in emergency situations. 
• Possession of a Level I IMSA Sign and Pavement Markings Certificate within 6 months of hire.

Regulatory Programs Division: Under general direction from the Regulatory Programs Division Manager, the Senior Environmental Engineer – Wastewater Treatment will focus on regulator support to the Water Pollution Control Plant for NPDES discharge requirements and for air, safety, and hazardous materials compliance programs for the Plant.

* Water Pollution Control Plant Division: Under general direction from the Water Pollution Control Plant Division Manager, the Senior Environmental Engineer – Wastewater Treatment will provide engineering services to support process control and coordinate CIP activities at the Plant.

* Water and Sewer Division: Under general direction from the Water and Sewer System Division Manager, the Senior Environmental Engineer – Civil Utilities provides engineering services for the City’s water system, sanitary sewer collection system, and stormwater collection systems including development review and system CIP.

*These are new positions included in the recommended budget for FY 2024-25, which will be considered by the Sunnyvale City Council on June 18, 2024.

There is currently one (1) Full-Time 2-Year fixed-term position in the Department of Public Works supporting both the Water Resources and Road Maintenance Divisions.  

The Natural Resources Senior Planner will be housed in the Water Resources Division and will primarily support environmental compliance for Department of Public Works (DPW) Road Maintenance Division projects, including maintenance, repair, and replacement of roads, bridges, and drainage infrastructure (i.e., culverts, ditches and drainage channels).  
The work is dynamic, requiring strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to accomplish the following tasks that range among:

• coordinating with the Road Maintenance Division managers to develop permitting strategies.

THE POSITION

Under direction of the City Engineer or Assistant City Engineer, a Senior Civil Engineer supervises field and office work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure; manages land development processes; manages and performs engineering analysis; implements programs and administers projects; may supervise a major section in the Engineering Division; and performs other duties as assigned. The Senior Civil Engineer performs and supervises the most complex engineering assignments.

This Senior Civil Engineer position will manage capital projects and may also oversee some development projects.  Examples of projects include:

• Arroyo Trail T 13, 1.5 miles paved trail through Wente Vineyard and LARPD Sycamore Grove properties and includes a 100’ pedestrian bridge.
• Arroyo Las Positas Creek channel widening, flood walls and Airway Blvd Culvert Replacement adjacent to Las Positas Golf course and Livermore Municipal Airport.
• Bridge Preventive Maintenance Program for 19 city bridges
• Manage other city asset programs such as pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk, ADA ramps.

The Associate Engineer classification is the third level of the engineering series and typically requires minimal supervision in the design, review, and management of projects. Incumbents of this class are typically supervised and provided lead direction and training by a Senior Engineer.

The Public Works Department is recruiting to fill an Associate Engineering position in the City Facilities Architectural Services (CFAS) division, MEP Section. CFAS division MEP section is responsible for the project management and delivery of capital projects for buildings, parks, libraries, public safety facilities and various cultural facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, and a supreme work ethic. These positions require excellent judgment, initiative, perseverance, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility and written and verbal communications skills.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Prepares and/or reviews designs, improvement plans, estimates, specifications, and contract documents for capital improvement projects, private development projects or other engineering related projects that are prepared by subordinates and/or consultants engaged by the City or by private developers.
• Reviews and responds to Request for Information (RFIs) and submittals, negotiate change orders, and review pay applications.
• Manages projects, i.e., oversees, controls, and guides the project.
• Negotiates, prepares and manages consultant agreements and/or construction contracts.
• Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
• Supervises the collection and analysis of field data and prepares recommendations.
• Responsible for interfacing with the public, consultants, contractors, other City departments/sections, and other agencies, and is responsible for timely response to the stakeholders' requests and concerns on projects.
• Coordinates with construction inspectors and attends field meetings to resolve problems arising in the field during the construction of a public improvement project.
• Prepares clearly written and effective reports and Council Memos.
• Tracks and manages project costs using appropriate tools and resources.
• Responsible for permitting, managing, and designing capital projects.

Additional responsibilities specific to the CFAS MEP Section positions:

Associate Engineer (Mechanical - MEP section):

• Able to review and comment on the various mechanical and/or plumbing engineering designs provided by the City's consultants.
• Able to provide mechanical and/or plumbing engineering analysis, calculations, and designs conforming to the California Mechanical and/or Plumbing Code requirements and other local and state standards.
• Able to act as the project manager for various City projects that involve HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Able to provide project scoping and estimate construction costs for budget preparation for projects involving the upgrade/replacement of chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps, air-handling units, circulation pumps, ventilation equipment, plumbing equipment, piping/valves, etc.

Associate Engineer (Electrical - MEP section):

• Able to review and comment on the various electrical engineering designs provided by the City's consultants.
• Able to provide electrical engineering analysis, calculations, and designs conforming to the California Electrical Code requirements and other local and state standards.
• Able to act as the project manager for various City projects that involve electrical systems.
• Able to provide project scoping and estimate construction costs for budget preparation for projects involving building power, lighting, generators, UPS, fire alarm systems, microgrids, EV chargers, etc.

The City of Healdsburg is seeking a full-time Senior Civil Engineer to join the Public Works Department. This position will have a primary focus on the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
