In the Land Use Division, the Associate Planner performs a variety of professional activities in support of the City's planning services. If current planning activities are assigned, work will include data collection, provision of information to the public at the zoning counter, processing development applications, and environmental review. In the Transportation Division, the Associate Planner works on a variety of projects, programs, and initiatives, such as developing, implementing, and updating the City's transportation plans; analyzing transportation and traffic safety data to identify and prioritize projects and policies that will improve public safety; developing Complete Streets projects and supporting the implementation of transportation capital improvement projects; and coordinating with transit providers, primarily AC Transit, on transit projects affecting Berkeley, including service planning and bus stop improvements. Additional duties may include leading grant applications and assisting with grant compliance, procurement of consultants, and consultant and contract management.

Parks Planning and Design Manager Class Specification

Definition
Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and directs the activities of the Landscape Architecture Division; serves as a key staff member in the administration, development, and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the City’s Park Master Plan; oversees and directs the supervision and activities of citywide tree preservation and landscape development policies; and gives professional advice on landscape matters.

Class Characteristics 
This is a single position management classification reporting to the Community Services Director.  The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of department policy as it relates to division activities and follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; the incumbent is expected to identify policy issues and work with other staff to develop options and recommend solutions.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Landscape Architect by the latter’s responsibility to manage the staff and activities of one or more sections of the Landscape Architecture Division.

• Reviews and analyzes federal, state and local landscape and water legislation and its implementation in the City of Fremont.

• Acts as the City's representative in dealing with public and private agencies, groups and individuals concerned with parks and open space, trees, and landscape.
• Conducts park location studies to evaluate park site feasibility and proposed land acquisition and/or development.
• Responds to public requests and complaints regarding landscape development and tree preservation.
• Coordinates the work of the division with that of other departments and divisions.

Education/Experience

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Refuse Truck Driver II

This is a journey level class and is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I classification by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff or division programs and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Drives and operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including one or two-person-staffed refuse collection truck, front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; responds to afterhours call-outs if assigned.
• Maintains assigned truck by regular cleaning and washing, including inspecting for mechanical or other operating problems; reports mechanical or related problems for maintenance; may perform minor maintenance as appropriate.
• Operates hydraulic/mechanical controls to load, compress, and dump refuse; collects and disposes of debris on assigned route; transports refuse to/unload at appropriate landfill sites and/or sewage treatment plant.
• Assists with battery sorting, electronic waste collection, bin repair or delivery, cardboard removal, illegal dumping cleanup, and any other related solid waste program or assignment.
• Completes and posts notification tags on containers, bins and dumpsters for unacceptable contents for refuse collection.
• Prepares, maintains and submits records, reports and forms including time records, equipment and maintenance records, and route maps and logs.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

The City of Dixon is accepting applications to fill one (1) full-time position of Transit Driver/Dispatcher and to establish an eligibility list for future use.  

This position drives a Readi-Ride General Public Paratransit Vehicle (GPPV) on a demand responsive curb-to-curb transit system and assist patrons boarding and leaving the bus, especially the elderly, disabled, and school age children. May also assist in collecting information relating to the operation of the system; receive ride requests and organize the vehicle pick-ups and drop-offs; and, will work closely with the drivers and Transit Supervisor to ensure coordinated efforts.

When assigned to development review, you will have the opportunity to review residential, commercial, industrial and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations including all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines; evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects; review plan checks for small developments; and review traffic control plans for construction projects.

When assigned to capital projects designs and traffic signal systems, you will have the opportunity to manage capital improvement projects including development of conceptual design options, detailed engineering design, bid, and construction administration; prepare council reports, conduct presentations, and respond to project-related public inquiries; design/review traffic engineering design elements for Complete Streets Projects and traffic calming projects; work with project development team to analyze street and road use for all road users focusing on safety and efficiency of transportation networks; and work with traffic signal maintenance team to maintain and upgrade city’s traffic signal system, including using Synchro traffic signal timing software. Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Desirable qualifications include a master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field.  

Under general supervision, lead, and conduct activities in the delivery of recreation program areas including camps, preschool, tots, after school programs, parks and nature, teens, boxing, youth and adult sports, special events, and active adults; oversee the proper use of indoor and outdoor community recreational facilities, perform a variety of custodial tasks; assist the public and staff in their use of the facility.

Distinguishing Characteristics: 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Aide assists in the proper use of a community recreational facility and assist Recreation Leaders in providing a variety of recreation programs. The Recreation Leader classification is distinguished from the Recreation Aide level in the complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, the amount of time spent performing the duties, the nature of the public contact made, and its training responsibilities of new staff. Positions at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.
